I don’t see any way around it unless OSU finds a way in the playoffs, or unless the Orange has the option to choose who it would have originally taken if the Rose had not executed the infamous ā€œcluster clauseā€ (honestly, I don’t know how that all works).

The committee has created a lot of clusters. Why not another one? Send UT to the Rose Bowl.

Happy birthday, young'un! My 12yr old grandson is celebrating his today, too.

Hope you feel better soon.

He is destined for great things being born on this day! Wish him happy birthday from all of VN, except @Weezer because he has a blanket restraining order.

The crux of this is that yes we want to go to the Orange, beat a good opponent and get 11, but then again I don't want to go up against a really good opponent with a bunch of our kids opting out and we don't have enough horse power to get the W and open ourselves up to criticism again like "oh, yeah, see that's why we didn't move them up over Bama..."

The higher the bowl, the fewer the opt-outs. We should want the highest bowl. The team worked hard for it, they earned it and they should get it.

Oh certainly agree--- if our guys won't opt out and we are as close to a full roster as possible then yes, I'd love to go whip anyone's tail -- Just don't want to be given the nod and then we're missing a bunch of guys and lay another egg primetime. These kids had an absolutely amazing year and deserve the best.

The opponent will have to deal with the exact same thing.

Every team will have opt-outs, especially for the lower bowls. Nobody wants to lose, but getting the team amped to play in a higher bowl will be good for the program and recruiting. But... we'll play where we're sent-- and I expect that will be UT's public message.

From the Orange Bowl Conference Tie Ins rule:

ā€œā€¦ Also, should a highest-ranked team create a rematch with the ACC team, the Orange Bowl has the option of passing over that team for the next-highest ranked team among the Big10, SEC, and Norte Dame..ā€

While Clemson and Ohio State didn’t play this year, or last year, the Clemson vs Ohio State matchup was played the two prior years in the CFB. It’s still a matchup that viewers and attendees may be apathetic to. This wouldn’t technically be a rematch.. but if Clemson wins the ACC then it at least gives the Orange Bowl a little bit of a leg to stand on if they don’t want to accept Ohio State. Not sure it’s enough though. Depends on how much wiggle room they would have and if the Orange Bowl even cares.
