USC/Utah

USC can’t play in the Orange Bowl. If USC loses to Utah, USC drops to the Cotton Bowl and the Vols are out in the cold unless the committee slots Alabama behind Tennessee.

Really, any of the top four teams losing likely relegates Tennessee to the Citrus Bowl unless the losing team falls to #7.
Who would play in the Orange Bowl? Alabama is in the Sugar Bowl

Good point! If TCU loses, either OSU goes to the playoff leaving the Orange Bowl open (TCU can’t go) or everything still stays the same.

If Michigan loses, Purdue of course goes to the Rose Bowl. Either Michigan stays in the playoff and Vols go Cotton, or Ohio State goes to the playoff and Michigan (likely) goes to the Orange Bowl with Tennessee still going to the Cotton Bowl.

The one thing( I see) that would knock us down to the Citrus would be LSU beating GA. and the other top three win.

I am hanging on to my eight Fiesta Bowl tickets.

Because, I believe in miracles!

I'm just curious if Utah wins, then it gives USC two losses, and I had a couple of people in the Heisman thread telling me no two loss QB can win. They said Caleb Williams is absolutely going to win it now, Hooker is definitely out with two losses, but Williams would be out with their logic also.

*Yes, I'm fishing, but they never answered that question in the Heisman thread 😁
Johnny Football won with 2 losses.
Lamar Jackson won with 3 losses.

Well OSU would go to the playoff under that scenario and Penn State goes to the Rose. Utah would also go to the Rose. The only issue is that USC could knock us out of the Orange. It would be very close. Best case scenario is that Utah lays waste to them, but I don't think Lincoln RIley is going to let that happen.

I expect Utah to play very physical.

It will all work itself out. I still say we’re ending up in the Orange. My prediction is that 1 of USC or TCU will lose since the spreads in both games are only 2.5 points (most likely USC), and Ohio State will slide into the playoffs.

So it’ll be:

Peach Bowl: UGA vs Ohio State
Fiesta Bowl: Michigan vs TCU
Rose Bowl: Utah vs Penn State
Sugar Bowl: Alabama vs Kansas State
Orange Bowl: Tennessee vs Clemson
Cotton Bowl: USC vs Tulane

USC cannot go to the Orange, they are not contractually able to go to the Orange. If they lose they would be Cotton Bowl bound.GBO!

That is not correct. If USC loses Ohio St moves into the playoff. You are right USC would go to the cotton. Alabama would get the sugar as highest ranked team out of the playoff and we will go to the Orange as second ranked team in the sec. USC losing helps Tennessee chances of making the Orange. The only thing possibly keeping them out of the spot now is the Rose Bowl threatening to take Penn St. If USC losses Penn St will get their wish too because Ohio State will be in the playoffs and out of the way. GBO

So with all of the talk about OSU not wanting to go to Rose Bowl against Utah, isn't that assuming that USC beats Utah on Saturday? So, what happens if Utah knocks them off, and therefore presumably out of the CFP, wouldn't USC then go to the Rose Bowl, against OSU? If that happens, then TN vs. Dabo still happens in the Orange??
The only good thing about that scenario is that OSU would be in the playoff assuring UT a spot in the Orange Bowl.

Waaaaaaaay back in the day I was a Trojan for a couple of semesters. I pull for them, not like I do the Vols, but hope they take it to the Utes.

All this talk of Ohio State wanting the Orange Bowl but I don’t see anyone talking about us to the Rose Bowl. If OSU doesn’t care about the tradition of that matchup then why not?
