Guys, I’m not going to post this anywhere else, but all the nonsense going around about what happened pregame, Saturday is mostly true!
I just talked to a very trusted, connected person who confirmed it.
NIL has officially reared it’s ugly head!!
The injury to Hooker may be worse than originally thought but has not been confirmed.
The pregame shenanigans have been and this was in fact a team divided in Columbia, Saturday night!

At first I thought you were saying…. “I’m not gonna post anywhere else but the baseball forum” and then you were gonna go on and explain the reason was that all the other forums are insane at the moment.

NIL will rear its head in every sport, quote me. I think it will happen in baseball through the transfer portal as it becomes public knowledge what guys are getting paid to play. It has to bring about tension in the locker room. I can imagine the hurt feelings when a guy has given his heart to UT and played for X number of years and been a part of the success and not gotten paid. Then a guy who has never put on the Orange and White gets paid a ton of money or any money without ever having proved himself. I believe the NIL should be what it is says. You should only get paid a fair amount for use of your Name, Image and LIkeness, not pay to play or pay to come. They should set what is a fair value for a player's Name, Image or Likeness and when that is used by either sales of his merchandise or appearance fees or autograph, he should be paid that amount. But any player paid for anything other than that should be penalized. But as I have said once the toothpaste is out of the tube it won't go back in again.
Then it will rear its ugly head with the fans when guys who are getting paid to play don't perform. I've said this about the Nico situation in football. When he has a bad game, and it will happen or gets hurt, they will be screaming about what he is getting paid to perform. I think in football and basketball it will reduce the guys going early because they can get paid to play in college fewer games and less wear and tear on their bodies than NBA or NFL.
Buyers be ware. Nico deal will blow up UT football.

We all knew this was coming, I just didn’t think this soon. I worried about it when the Nico kid steps foot on campus.
I’m going to be honest, from what I was told, I can see both sides of this situation making sense.
I absolutely hate NIL!
I can’t even pretend to have the answer but something has to be done to regulate it.

What really bothers me, and I know you are new to Tennessee football, but the days of guys like Dale Jones, Keith Delong, JJ McCleskey and Charles McRae are finished and that hurts because those are some of my all time favorite players! Those are guys that didn’t have the measurables or accolades but came to this university because they wanted to and they fell in love with it and gave everything they had and became legends imo.
Those days are finished.

Yeah, that is unfortunate, but there was too much smoke for there not to be something to this. I can see how NIL could blow up, but it doesn’t seem to have for other teams. Saban bragged about Bryce Young making 7 figures, but I don’t see Bama players fighting him. DJ Uiaggilelei at Clemson made bank and he’s mostly a bust who was benched, but I don’t see a mutiny over there. I’m not sure how someone is going to think they’ll be on par financially with a QB who is in the Heisman race and led us back to prominence when that particular player is someone who ran afoul of the law, got caught on video saying highly questionable things, and was kicked off the team and then welcomed back. I understand that people make mistakes, but you have to understand there are consequences. Also, having other people make more money than you do, including cases where it’s not deserved, is part of life. At some point, Tennessee teams need to get past this constant swirl of drama that blows up on us intermittently.

While we’re sharing, and since we’re buried in the dugout, I’ve held my tongue for 1.5 years, but I was told that baseVol players got into a fist fight while out late the night before we were eliminated from Omaha. That came from a close friend of mine who said they heard it from a player who was here at the time. I hate to throw these things out there, and I’m not looking for any comment on that, but at some point we’ve gotta get past this self-destructive behavior that seems to emerge.

Edit: some frustration in this response, but have still greatly enjoyed the last two years

I would not know and have not heard that. As you might know, mine did not hang out with a lot of the players who left away from the field. He just did not have things in common with a lot of them. I would think if it was true as a big event, I would have heard it by now. Not saying it was not a couple of guys but if it was a big event it would have gotten out by now. But there was a lot of stuff going on at that time that was distractions and I will not share all of that drama. Just not focused like they should have been as a team with the season on the line and it ruined their legacy.

Yeah, it could certainly not be true, but that's what I heard, with reasonable confidence. Appreciate the comments. It seems Tennessee teams have played with an edge that at times has helped us but has also led to implosion. Hopefully we can get past that.

Adversity is a great teaching moment.
I’ll say it, I can’t wrap my mind around the fact that there was no one on the team, with the balls to step up, put a stop to all the nonsense and remind everyone of the opportunities ahead of them, reel everyone in and get them on the same page.
They had so much to play for.🤦‍♂️

I don't think that this drama was the only issue that led to the loss, but a contributing factor. Sounds like an unfortunate combo of locker room drama, some complacence/overlooking, night road game, the loss of Banks hurt a defense that was already suspect, and USC embarrassed after humiliating loss to gators week before.

I really believe that at any school where big NIL bucks are being tossed around there is something similar to this as well. I believe from the beginning that where guys were getting paid varying amounts, there was going to be jealousy, envy, pride…..you name it.

I truly believe that similar incidents are taking place everywhere and coaches are trying to hide the facts. It’s like those who believe bad fans only exist at one institution, which just isn’t true. Feelings are getting hurt at every big name school. We’re at the tip of the iceberg.

I’m being dense here because I have no idea what you’re talking about, @cobbwebb0710 Is there a link you could kindly provide?

It’s discussed in the thread below, although maybe not all of the speculation. The summary is that LB Jeremy Banks missed the USC game not due to an injury. Allegedly, he got into a conflict with Hooker over NIL $ that is said to have come to blows, with Milton allegedly breaking it up. Banks seems to have not been suspended for that but perhaps for the aftermath (missing meetings). Heupel said after the game something like that the loss should hurt, including for players who didn’t make the trip. That is my understanding, although I may not have all the details correct.

Pretty much spot on, except I’m not sure it initially started over NIL, it just lead to that and things were said regarding that.
I’m not sure what exactly stoked the initial flames, maybe it was the whole stepping on the T thing? Maybe it was strictly an NIL thing?
That part wasn’t disclosed to me.

Truly disappointing, but not unexpected.
