someone needs to be fired today

So we lost a game, we new coming into the season was losable. As far as the beat down part goes, we still had a chance before Hooker got injured and turned the ball over. That’s when it became a beat down
We didn’t have a chance after USCJr scored their first 3rd qtr TD. It was evident then that there had been absolutely zero half time adjustments and that Defense wasn’t going to show up

After beating Bama and LSU, you don't go and lose to teams like this. It's unexcusable. The punishment for this sin, requires some coaches losing their job. Nothing less will suffice for this horrendous sin.

Yes, Jonathan Edwards, we are all sinners in the hands of an angry god. Thanks for the weird sermon and expressing your desire for blood sacrifice.

But for those of us living in reality, we realize there’s variance within a season and no one performance determines the value of any coach and/or team. Especially one who just got here and that is landing elite defensive talent

It’s very difficult to place the blame on the coaches. Most of the issues are that our d line can’t beat o linemen one-on-one and and our d-backs can’t cover.

If the coaches forgot to tell them to not suck, then fire them all. Otherwise, recruit.

The offense being so good this year made us forget the defense isn't one you want to take on the road.. We couldn't hide the back 7 last Night. It's still as bad as we were saying it was at the beginning of the year.

After last night something has to change. Banks or Martinez, or both got to go.
This is season 2 and the same stuff his happening. 3rd and forever get converted constantly, QB that hasn't put up numbers all year look like #1 draft picks against us, playing 15yrds off a guy and leaving them open for the QB to hit the WR/TE at the sticks and convert for the 1st down, players talking trash after like they've done something while being thrashed all night.
This isn't all Jimmy's and Joes, this is coaching. Sadly look at SC. They talked about all the defensive guy wearing wrist bands with a couple of plays with color codes so they could get lined up quick and ready to go to try and keep up with TN. That's thinking outside the box and trying to do what you can to give your team better odds.

So something has to change because the 1 recruiting class they’ve had wasn’t able to magically fix all the things?

That’s not how any of this works. Neither you nor I know what adjustments were made and games can change on any play. 1 tipped ball or turnover could’ve made a massive difference.

Heupel has to build the alter and preform the necessary coaching sacrifice to appease the angry and hurt fans. Sadly this sacrifice will be with blemish.

I will be totally surprised if anybody is fired.
This was a 4 -5 year rebuild. Sad to believe anybody does not buy into it.
Some on this site had CJH gone in 4 years before he stepped foot on Tennessee ground.
Sorry but we are going to have to wait this out.

Some need to relook at what we have been through the last 15 years and we hit the lowest point under Pruitt. The mass exodus of players with a new staff and look where we are today a top Ten team. Not expected at this point.

This is the type of knee jerk reactions that resulted in 15 years of pain. One right after another and resulted in Self Inflicted wounds.

Let's see this through 4-5 years and we will fire the coaches and get a new one if this doesn't work out.

Any over reaction will be the death of us once again.

Just don’t have the horses let the coaches get his players in there then if it doesn’t improve or get better then let’s evaluate them…the coaches have done well with what they’ve had to work with, give them some credit..

Tennessee doesn’t have the players what Bama and Georgia have yet.. it’s gonna get better sun came up today and If you believe the good lord made it happen. It’s a sport played by kids and we beetch and complain what we can’t control… Go Vols🍊🍊

What 4* or 5* would want to to come play on this defense?

No not magically fix everything but you'd expect some improvement.
Yeah yeah, it's we don't have the players. Yet other coaches with less talent guys seem to progress through the season.
Wonder why is that🤔

Are you saying SC has better athletes than TN and we should be patient until the coaches get "their" guys before we can expect any improvement in the D? You would have a better chance of winning the lottery than this plan working in the SEC.

This is the second year in a row where the TN D is giving up 400+ yards/game.

Last 3 recruiting class ranks:
TN: #11 in 2020, #22 in 2021, #17 in 2022
SC: #19 in 2020, #80 in 2021, #24 in 2022

Yes there have been coaching turnover at both schools and there have been transfer portal additions/subtractions at both schools but I don't think any reasonable person would argue SC has more talent than TN. That is what makes last nights total meltdown even more frustrating. Only thing to consider is the coaching & schemes on the D side of the ball.

Our team 100% improved through out the season. Watch the Pitt game and then watch LSU and Alabama. Our team was far better after Pitt.

The problem is you’re taking 1 game and pretending one bad performance shows we aren’t growing. It’s absurd

The team with a former heisman candidate at QB? Yes, their offense has more talent than the defense we had on the field.

And wtf are you talking about that this plan won’t work in the sec. Did you not watch any of the other games?

More aggressive play calling on Defense wins that game IMO. And i am confused why we didnt see more.

Maybe Garner was certain his guys would suffice and Banks wanted to allow themthe opportunity. Either way...the lack of blitzing cost us this game.
Because blitzing every dang play couldnt have made it any worse.

Knew the goose was cooked when we started the second half playing 10-15 off the ball in the secondary when we knew dang well that Rattler was going to keep throwing to those spots at will.

Sure, we don’t have the horses, that is clear. But the coaching was terrible - like criminally bad. And there’s no reasonable explanation for it.

Forget the firing talk, just someone explain to me why our secondary runs away from receiver at the snap? If it is so that the receiver cannot get behind them, then why were the receivers behind our defense all night and in empty zones, with our defense just looking at them? Blame it on coaches, blame it on not having horses, it does not matter now unless it does not change. Hasn't changed all season.

So we have elite receivers and SC does not have the secondary "horses" either. How come they were able to blanket us?

A lot of this is fan's knee jerk reactions, to a situation that we are not aware of at the moment.
If the J Banks story is true, I am sure it has some affect on Defense Performance and on the team as a whole.
If the J Banks is true, it is just another issue that he has his moments and a flaw that cannot be corrected.

someone needs to be fired today...Defensive coaches...see ya, do it now to send a message.
Take a clue from Dabo and what he did after WVU killed them in the Citrus bowl a few years ago

Email Danny White and tell him.

hey if you have a bad performer at work you keep them...no way they are out the door, common sense but then its not all that common

Plenty… there’s 4-5 stars already wanting to play on this defense next year.. all that defense player is to look at this years success and instantly wants to improve this team to make it better.
The better players Tennessee gets the better the team and defense will be.. it’s gonna take time to get the players.
