Kellie Harper discussion/debate thread [merged]

He said it there more diplomatically, and he said it more explicitly elsewhere. It was not a big secret at the time that he had his arm twisted and took the path of least resistance. Your problem is that a lot of us have been around long enough to remember.

Until someone posts an exact quote that supports your narrative, I'm gonna consider it one big Legion of the Miserable Myth (LOTMM).

Elsewhere? Bring your quote to the table. Don’t be lazy

Raise your hand if you could have imagined a month ago that 3 games in we'd be recycling the tired AF Kellie hire debate. Unbelievable.
Any word on Jordan? I wonder if she's practicing? Please get well soon.
So begins the slide that will result in KJH probably being fired after the 2024-2025 season

Not a big secret at the time that after putting out initial feelers, it was quickly obvious that no big name coach was available nor willing for the money Fulmer had to offer. Also no big secret that a familiar pocket of long time fans and donors were, as always, insisting it must be a former Lady Vol. When a beloved former Lady Vol, Kellie, was available, willing, and had an unexpected run in the NCAA tourney, plus apparently a great interview, the decision was made. None of this is a mystery and all has been discussed over and over on this board.

Coaching changes are so much about timing - who's available, how much money is available, etc. That's why when we call for a coach's scalp, we need to have an idea what the available coaching pool is.

Not so sure that's true anymore. We are just another team at this point.
She needs to somehow get her players to realize that every night you step on the floor you are getting the opponents best shot. You have a target on your back for putting the Lady Vol uniform on your body. The opposing coaches are going to come with their best gameplan to beat you because it matters to win a game against the Lady Vols. Coach and Team needs to step it up or get runned over!

Yeah, sadly I agree. They need to stop living in the past and Kellie needs to build her own legacy. Most of the opposing players don't remember when Tennessee was winning NC and a perennial FF team.
Agree with both. Actually, we're in that awful place where teams look forward to playing and beating us because it still sounds like a big win (diminshingly so) but its alot easier to do.

As I just said in the thread about the refusal to update our 80s offense, tho our past was glorious, we're letting it be a drag on us in many ways. We can move on and still honor what built us, and we must.

We are still a throw it inside to the post team. The center position is almost obsolete in the pro game. Men's anyways..

“I was a bit in the mindset of, ‘We need to find the best coach. Male, female, Lady Vol, not, just whoever is going to be the best at this moment,’” Fulmer said. “I’m telling you, it became very clear to me as the interview process started that we had our choice in the country of coaches to talk to.”

Fulmer said athletic department administrators Angie Boyd-Keck, Donna Thomas and Tara Brooks told him the importance of hiring someone with a connection to the program.

You can take that how you feel as he said this in a press conference, which means he's going to spin it like all AD's do in the best way possible.

According to whom?
Everyone? I didn't know that was a point of contention. It was probably mostly about money. Don't know that there was a direct conversation w all the big names since most could be eliminated due to money. Not sure why we want to think Fulmer never even thought of hiring a big name. Of course he did. For a second. Then reality took him over. Again, didn't know this was disputed.

I didn't know it was a point of contention that Fulmer was voluntold to hire a former Lady Vol for the job, but here we are...

I just want to see 1 or 2 plays that’s designed specifically to get open a 3 point shooter. It’s like I haven’t seen that in YEARS with this team.

Screens for 3 point shooters as per discussions earlier in this long group of discussions.

Yeah I didn't think it was either. I guess that's what happens in the 89th rehashing of any narrative. We forget what was long ago chewed over and settled. Both things are stipulated at this point since they've been said publically: that Fulmer had at least a fleeting thought of hiring a big name and that a vocal crew of olden days advocates let him know they were watching. All played a part, none are a mystery.

At least Danny White will be independent from such corrosive influences.

Still waiting for a verifiable qoute from Fulmer saying he hired Kellie out of convenience and as the path of least resistance and didn't try to find the best coach. After all, that's what's being claimed that he said.

Darth, Majors, et al narrative: "Fulmer lazy, Fulmer indifferent to WCBB, Fulmer takes easy way out, Fulmer hires who the blue hairs tell him to hire. Therefore, illegitimate coach hired.

Others say: "Prove it"

Darth, Majors, et al narrative: "This is settled science because we say so. Don't need to prove anything. We remember, whether we can find the smoking gun or not. Shut up and accept our word for it."
