I was still shocked to learn that they waved payments while the student loans were on hold for several groups including people who worked for hospitals including Healthcare workers and administrative staff at hospitals. A friend of mine who works for a hospital said the last few years of non-payment were wiped off her loans because she works for a hospital as a "not for profit organization". Doctors and nurse practitioners are higher paid professions. We would be surprised how much these exceptions helped the "haves" but not the "have nots". Another unfair program by government.
Edit: Now office workers are generally paid like other office staff in other industries but why are they able to get loans forgiven versus those other industries? I don't see the difference in sacrifice.
Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)
If you are employed by a U.S. federal, state, local, or tribal government or not-for-profit organization, you might be eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Keep reading to see whether you might qualify.
The limited PSLF waiver ended Oct. 31, 2022
The time-limited changes to the PSLF Program rules, referred to as
the limited PSLF waiver, allowed borrowers to receive credit for past periods of repayment that would otherwise not qualify for PSLF.
While the U.S. Department of Education (ED) is working to process PSLF forms and update accounts with credit under the limited PSLF waiver, we are also working to apply changes previously announced in April 2022, as part of the
one-time account adjustment. These changes mean that borrowers with federally-managed loans may still see an increase in their payment counts toward income-driven repayment and PSLF forgiveness in July 2023.
