You never know, the Chinese people might have a nickname for him.......kind of like Americans that call Kim Jong Ill "the pampadour in platform shoes".

at least in public. Kruschev didn't think very much of Kennedy and Kennedy was a WWII veteran.

Reading the article, the actions were akin to a fly on the butt of an ox.

I mean seriously, they were throwing wood into the water for crying out loud.

I was going to comment that the Chinese have better options for making a statement than sending a bunch of (probably drunk) sailors out to f*** with a U.S. warship...but then I read the other incidents detailed at the bottom of the article. They don't look as benign.

They may get close and get away with it.....let them, God forbid, board one or shoot it all to hell and see what happens. Israel shot up one, killing several sailors. North Korea captured a ship and held the crew hostage. No punishment was doled out.

I have faith in our military and would expect that the USN could basically put the entire Chinese navy on the bottom in 48 hours if they were in the position to do so.

The problem is that China could cash out of their investment in the U.S. and there would be hell to pay for everyone.

They are just angry we are mapping the Taiwan straights. Crap like this happens all the time, the level of radiation US sailors receive passing through there could fry an egg.

I'm talking about the radiation coming from mainland China. When any US warship passes between Taiwan and China they are lit up the entire time they go through. The US sailors will be subjected to extreme levels of radiation if they stay outside the hull for any length of time.

Our subs do not venture in that close, the continental shelf is too shallow and they are not needed there anyway. It doesn't mean that we shouldn't try to get the best topographical data that we can, for other underwater missions or data from their diesel subs (which are extremely silent and best for shallow water)

Exactly. Had this been just about the one ship and their disrobing crew I would have found this humorous as well. When you take the rest of the provocations into account it certainly looks like a concerted effort by the Chinese military using both military and civilian vessels.

getting in the way of ship and causing a crash if very scary. you just don't get within 100 yards of ships, unless you're refueling. i don't see hussein doing anything about it, it will be interesting to see if china does it again.

Do you not think that is exactly what they want? China and other countries (ie Iran) constantly challenge us in this area and no other president has really done anything. Lets leave it to the Admirals.
