Here in the Tri Cities, the Food City stores are pretty good. The Publix in Johnson City is very good, but expensive. Kroger in Kingsport is terrible, but the one in JC is decent. We no longer have Kroger would gladly take them back over Food City.... Publix isn't more expensive as long as you just buy whatever is 2 for 1..
Food city loves to get you on these deals that will give a good price but then have fine print. Like 12 pack of cokes 3.99 but only limited to say 3 and the 4th 12 pack cost ya like 12 bucks. OR some deal that requires you buy 6 or there is no discount at all, again in the fine print. They count on ya not paying attention., or too embarrassed to bitch about it in the line. ....really ****** buisiness model for a grocery chain. I will definitely hold up the line at the front when they pull that, to either do a price check or THEY can put it back on shelf. The worst was tehy had a discount area, and a bunch of spices for like 1/3 normal price so I stocked up, and they would not give me the price. Even after they went back and checked that indeed was in fact what it said....the **** never sold. I am guess cause they never put sales price in system so the discount area just stayed filled with this crap that said it was on sale but wasn't..... Okay I never thought I'd grocery rant but there it is.That's the rub. Kroger 2 for 1 stuff is just half price if you only get one.
Nah the secret to Publix is go on Tues-Wed and get the buy one get one free stuff it is genuinely cheaper than any other grocery for just those items. You can't really make a list and shop that way though, it's more of a load up teh pantry on whatever is good kinda thing. Also Publix deli is superior to everyone. The sandwiches there are a better deal then subway or jimmy johns esp when you consider it's boars head stuff. But yeah alot of stuff is just too damn expensive there. I never go there with a "list"Then it comes out the same.![]()
Wusses. When I grocery shop, it’s 2-4 stores, driven by value (quality at best price). There are certain food stuffs and sundries that I’ll buy at Publix. Others at Trader Joe’s, Sprouts, and Lidl. Inglés and Kroger tend to make you join their tracking applications to get their best deals, so I shop there less frequently.
