I'm sure it won't happen. But in the bigger picture, 8-4 would still be a success with the wins we have. We're not losing a game this year, but even if we finish 8-4, it would still be a success for y2.

I mean, if we were 8-4, would you rather it be with wins over SC & Mizzou or Florida and Alabama?
You are talking about losing 4 of 5 to end the season…. All momentum completely gone.

It would completely ruin the start we had…. Just like 2016 is tainted bc we lost to South Carolina and Vandy after our hot start. I don’t think that is going to happen though.
So if we were to go 8-4, you'd rather have wins over Mizzou & SC than UF & Bama?. Preseason, 8-4 would be considered a success.

I understand it’s moving the goalposts mid-season but to beat Florida and Bama in the same year and end up 8-4 would be 2016-level disappointing. I said before the year I was a coin flip between 7 and 8 so my expectations have in one sense been met and in another already exceeded, because I didn’t think there was much chance Bama, LSU, and FL would all be wins. I would just be bummed to see this team stumble after getting so high.

I’d still enjoy the wins. They’d still count. It’s been a great ride so far. But I enjoyed the wins in 2016 too and it was still a bit of a gut punch to wind up as champions of life.

I am simply saying that 8-4 would still be a success, just like it wouldve been in preseason. So you would rather have wins over SC & Mizzou instead of the wins we have, to preserve "momentum."

We're not losing 4 of the next 5, but the season will still be an overall success if we did, based on preseason expectations. . . unless, in the preseason you expected 10+ wins.

The issue would be the potential losses to SC & Mizzou. We expected to beat them in the preseason as well, so losing to them would be disappointing. It wouldn't change the fact we got to the # of wins that was thought to be the marker for success.

I don't think the season would be a success at 8-4 after starting 7-0. The national perception of Heupel and the Vols would be no better and perhaps worse than if we went a ho-hum 7-5 or even 6-6. All anyone would talk about is how we are pretenders/choke artists and the infamy of such a letdown season would stick to Heupel for a long time.

So, where were your expectations in the preseason?

Calling the season a success at 8-4 preseason, but not now, means you would be trading Alabama & UF or Pitt, for wins over SC & Mizzou or Kentucky.

The scariest part of our explosive offense is the fact we’ve been this productive and efficient without Tillman..Just wait until he comes back..😳😳 The defenses of the SEC have their hands full as it is but adding Tillman will make it even more challenging..lol..Good luck with that!! We are/will be unbeatable!!

15-0

This game makes me nervous...I hope the team comes out intense and pissed off, because Kentucky sure as hell is going to come out swinging and pissed off. They want our scalp...bad..to make up for all the rest of this season of disappointment.

If we match that anger and intensity, we should beat the piss out of them, but if not..they could ruin everything.
I understand what your saying. In the SEC if you come out cold and don't prepare like you have the first 7 games then that is a possibly but this team has been taking a business like approach to every game and I believe last week showed that against UT-Martin by coming out and put them away by the first qrt. I don't think this team wants to ruin what has been an incredible season and the hope that is ahead.

This is a bad argument and you need to come off it. You keep harping on the "trading wins" thing while ignoring what everyone else is telling you about how massive of a disappointment it would be to lose to one of Mizzou and Vandy, which would happen at 8-4 at this point. Not to mention the impact on recruiting and national perception of Tennessee and even locker room issues it might create as the wheels would have absolutely fallen off.

Expectations change as a season progresses. It's a fact.

I don't know why you keep debating this. You don't even believe we're going 8-4 so why keep arguing it?

Hey, we were still able to get 1-2 firings in before we put the game away!

My birthday today. Going out having some seafood and bourbon tonight with homemade cheesecake for dessert later. Have tomorrow and Friday off, picking my daughter up from school early on Friday and heading to Knoxville to watch Kentucky get whooped on Saturday night. Going to be a great weekend.
Happy Birthday ! Hope you had a great one!

I think this is the most impressive. We don’t know half the stuff that HH is responsible for and calling at the line.

He always seems in control.

He processes information at a blazing speed and always throws to the right place and normally extremely accurately.
I don’t care what he does the rest of the season. He has cemented as one of my favorite Vols of all times, and I’m one of the ones that count Reggie White as the all time greatest.

Arguing it because of how people move the goal posts. Anyone wouldve said "I dont care how we get there, 8-4 would be a success." Now, after we've achieved more than expected, it's no longer a success. Bologna. It would suck to lose any games, but calling it a failure would discount the wins over Pitt, Florida, Alabama, LSU.

No Tennessee fan on the planet would've called 8-4, with wins over Pitt, UF, LSU, and Bama a failure preseason. In fact, I'd bet any fan would've begged for those results.

As much fun as it was to beat Bama, there is no shame in losing to them because almost everyone does. Lose to SC, UK or Mizzou and there is a huge level of embarrassment.

No Tennessee fan on the planet would call 8-4 a success if we lose 4 out of 5 to end the season. There's your answer. Recency bias is real and expectations change.
