Bad Beats, Monster laydowns...Poker discussion

OK, Bad Beat Story (personal, unfortunately):

In position, 5-handed, 100-200 blinds. Gun calls, I have 8-8, raise to 600. Dealer folds. Small blind calls, big folds, gun calls.

Flop 7-4-2 rainbow. Check, check, I bet 900. Small raises 1000. Gun calls. I push all in. Small folds, gun calls and flips K-7s. Turn J. River 7.

And, to salt the wound, small shows that he had the other 7.

Ouchy.
great play bad results

6 Handed. I know with 6 handed he might thought Ace 10 was good, but I would never move in with Ace 10, you could be dominated and drawing dead against AJ,AQ, or AK.
Well you dont fight that hard to get to six just to lose it all with A-10

Well, I finally broke down and signed up at FTP. I must say, I have missed internet poker since PP shut down US players. It's not the same as brick and mortar, but it's also nice to sit in my living room and play 80 hands an hour too. And there are plenty of extremely loose players.

What's interesting is the vast majority of players on FTP are in the US.

Play the right way and no one will complain.

I know I am getting in late on this conversation but if I am winning your money then I am playing good enough for me and that is all that matters. It is called poker, not "call if you only have a winning hand". you cant tell me that you have never sucked out on somebody or handed them a bad beat.

No. I think if I had the winner, I would raise.

If I understood the scenario correctly, he raised it enough to put the guy all in therefore he cannot raise it. It doesn't really matter anyway. I was just responding to him criticizing how someone else plays. The other guy took the pot. Apparently the other guy was playing right and he was playing wrong. Pocket A's wins that hand 95% of the time. I personally would like to play with someone who calls that is a 95% - 5% dog. Who wouldn't? If he continues to make that call all night you would take all his money anyway.

Holy crap. The odds against that are astronomical. I need to see if I can find them.

Odds against getting a Royal Flush? 30,939 to 1

Odds against getting four of a kind? 594 to 1

Is there a statistician in the house?

I thought I heard somewhere, not sure where, that it was something like 2.7 million to 1 for that to happen. Too bad they don't have a bad beat jackpot for the tournament.

My screen name is Fish_Hook'd on pokerStars

I dont like playing on the internet.

The flops like A Q Q A K happen far to often for my liking.

I had QdJd the other night playing $2/$4 NL on Pstars. Flopped a Royal Ad10dKd. Of course the other guy in the pot didn't hit anything on the flop, I bet $10, he called, I bet $20 he folds.

Never flopped that before though, wish I would won more off of it.:)

I haven't visited this thread in a while, but wanted to post that I won two weeks in a row at the fairly-talented game I frequent! I've been working on the middle-to-late game play. . . .I've found that I was previously too conservative with late betting and have increased my aggression with good success. One or two good pots and weaker opponents get scared, while good players respect strong bets (even if they are "semi-bluffs").

Anyway, happy cards to all!

I swear I will not play with women at the table again. I just had a hand where the flop was KKQ with one k & the Q hearts. I was holding the J & 6 hearts. A lady and I ended up the last two after the River was another heart giving me the flush with the KQJ accounted for. She never once bet or raised even the first bets of only $25. I bet $1500, she called and had two ks giving her the 4 of right from the start.

sounds like classic slow playing to me. i have known many men to do it as well. very frustrating...

Well there are some men, but most of the time it is a female player that does it.

i disagree. alot of female players do it just because they don't know what they have at times, but it sounds like she knew exactly what she was doing.
slow playing is a huge part of holdem. it's the best way to knock someone out of the game imo.

sure, slowplaying monster, unbeatable hands works, but you can also slow play your way to the rail just as easily.

I think there is a distinction here. If you have four Kings at the flop and don't bet them at least $50 - $100 you are going to waste an opportunity for a large pot. She never bet or raised, only called. I would have raised my $1500 bet as well, all I could have was a flush. There were eight players so she could have built up a substantial pot.
