President Joe Biden - Kamala Harris Administration

There are 3 components to this situation which indicate that the policy of forced migration to Martha's Vineyard is a publicity stunt at its core.

1) It is noteworthy that the Governor of Massachusetts, Charlie Baker, is a Republican, and whether or not the state of Massachusetts is a sanctuary state is a little complicated. While there are several policies in place that protect undocumented immigrants, the state itself does not have a sanctuary law in place.

2) Gov. Charlie Baker has been opposed to Massachusetts being a sanctuary state, but has maintained that it should be a matter resolved at the local level.

Baker: Sanctuary city decisions 'best made at local level'

3) In accord with sanctuary status being determined at the local level, there are 8 cities in Massachusetts which do have policies that embrace sanctuary status. However, none of those sanctuary cities or towns are located on Martha's Vineyard.

Those 8 cities are :

Amherst
Boston
Cambridge
Chelsea
Concord
Newton
Northampton
Somerville

This begs the question :

Why did Gov. Ron DeSantis choose to have these undocumented immigrants transported to Martha's Vineyard, rather than one of those 8 cities listed up above? The answer seems obvious : Martha's Vineyard is an island with limited housing and job opportunities, and Gov. DeSantis wanted to be as difficult as possible in making his point, which will undoubtedly be heralded as "owning the libs" among the Republican Party base.

Massachusetts has 8 sanctuary cities and how they cooperate varies

It definitely looks like Gov. Ron DeSantis is going to run for President. He is pandering hard to the far-right.
Of course, it was a publicity stunt. Why Martha's Vineyard? That's easy. It's a known Democrat hotspot, specifically of the Kennedys. Another question it begs, if they send the migrants away, does that make them racist?

or maybe it's because it draws attention to the absolute cluster at the border that gets very little media attention.

you want people to pay attention? make a splash
Meh, if Ron DeSantis was trying to convey the message that :

"You want to be a safe haven for undocumented immigrants? You should be careful what you wish for!"

Martha's Vineyard does not have a sanctuary town, and the state of Massachusetts, as a whole, is not a sanctuary state. Per the Republican Governor of Massachusetts, sanctuary status is only determined at the local level. So, basically, these undocumented immigrants can be shipped to Boston, on the order of their Republican Governor, without any Democrats having egg on their face over the matter. That is because Ron DeSantis sent them to a jurisdiction which does not have sanctuary status.

the flaw is that both Chicago and New York are sanctuary cities but they complain about shipments and move them out.

the point is that choosing Martha's Vineyard draws national media attention to the untenable situation at the border; Boston doesn't

.... but Ron DeSantis has made a weak point here.

For one thing, these immigrants will likely be shipped to Boston, not on the order of a Democrat, but on the order of a Republican - Governor Charlie Baker. This relocation is also easily justified by the fact that Martha's Vineyard does not have sanctuary status, while Boston does. If this was an attempt to "own the libs," .... it is a fail.

Your last sentence, which I put in bold, spells it out perfectly :

This was a publicity stunt by Ron DeSantis. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Perhaps ... but keep in mind that the order to relocate them to Boston, will be given by a Republican (Gov. Charlie Baker); not a Democrat. I don't think that this was well thought out by Ron DeSantis. In the end, there won't be any skin off the backs of Democrats when these undocumented immigrants are shipped to Boston ... and they definitely will be.

yes it is a publicity stunt - I disagree with your stated intent of it. It's not to own the libs or please the base as much as it is to draw more attention to the underlying problem that our current administration pretends and actively states doesn't exist.

not sure why you aren't bent about the VP saying the border is secure and if there are problems it's all someone else's fault

You can do both at the same time.

From his fight with "woke" corporations, to asking people to take off their masks while in his presence, DeSantis has been pandering hard to the far-right in the last 6 months. This is just another example of it..

If a Republican governor issues such an order, I'm sure it will be publicized he's doing so at the behest of the Democrats of Martha's Vineyard. Both sides play the game.

Anything the GOP does to combat the democrat agenda, is considered a “Far right” action or “Pandering to the far right”.

Just curious, does the Far-Left exist in America? And if so, please describe who the Far-Left are.

You don't believe Biden has been pandering to the far left?

this definitely got national media attention

I notice you completely ignored the fact that Team Biden is openly lying about the border situation

No such "behest" will be required.

None of the towns on Martha's Vineyard are established sanctuaries for undocumented immigrants, while Boston is. That fact alone, is enough to justify the relocation of the DeSantis migrants from Martha's Vineyard to Boston.

This was Gov. Ron DeSantis doing his best to be a pain in the butt to Democrats, but it will be a Republican Governor, Charlie Baker, who has to deal with it and relocate these immigrants to an appropriate sanctuary location. It's not readily apparent as to how this stunt hurts Democrats.

You don't believe Biden has been pandering to the far left?
I know he has, but my post concerned this misguided stunt by DeSantis.

Ron DeSantis is trying too hard to appeal to the resentments of his party's base, and in spite of his best efforts, he will end up being more of a nuisance to a fellow Republican Governor (Charlie Baker) than anyone else.

This is not a “ Far Right” issue . Intentional soft policies at the border is a far left issue that is causing everyone across the board to take a stand . You have a VP saying stupid things like our border is closed while we are able to watch video of illegals walking across it . Playing words games is fun though .

Isn’t the 1st step to correcting a problem, admitting there is a problem? According to the Biden admin, the border is secure. Do these lefties actually believe that?

They know it’s not , just like they know why these people are being sent to MV but you have to try and control the narrative. It’s like controlling the House , the Senate and the WH but saying you are doing more about the border issues than the last administration did .

I wouldn't call it a stunt, I would call it a taste of their own medicine. MV and other liberal areas helped elect this total disaster of an administration. This administrations border policy is absolutely criminal. Border towns don't have the infrastructure to take care of the surges that are taking place. You have thousands of people from other countries sleeping on the sidewalk and taking dumps behind businesses because every place around that they could go to is over whelmed. All the liberal areas in this country now need to see the burden that they helped create. Abbot should send a few bus fulls of illegals to Aspen Colorado, a place that votes Democrat over 90 percent of the time. They can help deal with it some too.

Transporting undocumented immigrants (including young children) over 1,000 miles to an island off the coast of the North Atlantic, which is ill-equipped to accommodate them, just for the purpose of making a political statement is currently a "far-right issue," because Ron DeSantis is treating this like a game.

Martha's Vineyard is not even a sanctuary location to begin with. They had to pass right over multiple sanctuary cities in order to drop them off in a place which wasn't one! Boston would have even made more sense from a logistical standpoint. So why were they taken to the Vineyard? Because Ron DeSantis is using them like pawns in a game of politics.

These immigrants are human beings. This was an asinine publicity stunt.

This first sentence totally ignores the human beings who are in the middle of this, and basically implies that it is perfectly acceptable to use these immigrants, including the children, as pawns in a game of American tribal politics.. That is a disgusting sentiment.

These humans are ( my guess ) being treated better , being fed more , given better medical services , offered more options than they ever have had in their live while being flown from an area of overcrowding to one of our countries most elite and pristine destinations for the Uber wealthy . Tell us again about their horrible plight after they came into this country illegally. Smh .. propaganda is fun
