There are 3 components to this situation which indicate that the policy of forced migration to Martha's Vineyard is a publicity stunt at its core.
1) It is noteworthy that the Governor of Massachusetts, Charlie Baker, is a Republican, and whether or not the state of Massachusetts is a sanctuary state is a little complicated. While there are several policies in place that protect undocumented immigrants, the state itself does not have a sanctuary law in place.

2) Gov. Charlie Baker has been opposed to Massachusetts being a sanctuary state, but has maintained that it should be a matter resolved at the local level.
Baker: Sanctuary city decisions 'best made at local level'
3) In accord with sanctuary status being determined at the local level, there are 8 cities in Massachusetts which do have policies that embrace sanctuary status. However, none of those sanctuary cities or towns are located on Martha's Vineyard.
Those 8 cities are :
Amherst
Boston
Cambridge
Chelsea
Concord
Newton
Northampton
Somerville
This begs the question :
Why did Gov. Ron DeSantis choose to have these undocumented immigrants transported to Martha's Vineyard, rather than one of those 8 cities listed up above? The answer seems obvious : Martha's Vineyard is an island with limited housing and job opportunities, and Gov. DeSantis wanted to be as difficult as possible in making his point, which will undoubtedly be heralded as "
owning the libs" among the Republican Party base.
Massachusetts has 8 sanctuary cities and how they cooperate varies
It definitely looks like Gov. Ron DeSantis is going to run for President. He is pandering hard to the far-right.
