Dee Williams speculation.

I’ve been guilty of obsessing 🙋‍♂️ over why Mitchell isn’t playing at LB. Is it discipline or injury/illness?
The people that know the real answer ain’t divulging. So, I’ll move on.

Anyway, with our troubles in the kicking game and help needed in the secondary, my new obsession is where is Dee Williams?
On depth chart, he has been listed at first or second team as a punt/kickoff returner/cornerback.
So, did he dress for either of first two games?
Any thoughts on why he isn’t playing?

Ok, and while I’m obsessing, anybody want to give me some free tickets 🎟 to the Florida game in the new North End Zone pavilion?

I didn’t see Williams but Mitchell was in his jersey and shorts and was in the huddle multiple times yesterday.

Potential. He was the leading tackler at TX. And I have been told over and over again that being a good tackler is the only thing that matters when playing LB.

I think it was more or less his production at Texas and add in the facts fans for some reason don't respect Banks.Banks is a Vfl in my book no matter what the negas say.Beasely coming along has quieted some of the noise but our depth isn't great so Mitchell would be a well added bonus rite now.Kid can't seem to get out of his own way.

What folks really need to worry about is next year..Sh*t getz really sketchy when our starters n depth are gone...I suspect we hit the portal hard for lb help.

Beasley has a Covid year and could come back. Herring is going to be good. But yeah, we need at least one Lb from the portal.

With Mitchell it’s either academic or weed. He’s a redshirt senior and near graduating, so I’m sure Heupel was willing to give him a slap on the wrist.

If it were a bigger deal than than that I feel like we would know what it is by now. And if he were a younger guy he would have probably been encouraged to look into the transfer portal. Simple as that.

I’m more willing to look past a minor infraction if someone is an upperclassman and making academic progress than not. We certainly need him.

Banks' only downside is the stupid personal fouls that follow him around the field. Otherwise he is solid, except for his inability to cover the slant which is shared by the entire defense.

He hasn't had one of those in the past 7 games....🙄.

Williams has an injury. out a few more weeks

Like I stated above, I’m a Banks fan. I love his intensity.

But this post is spot on. Our defense was on the field for SO many plays last year and the tackle numbers reflect that. If you go look through SEC leading tacklers through the years it’s generally been on teams with horrible offenses who can’t sustain drives. Being a tackle machine in a defense that is on the field as much as ours was last season doesn’t automatically equate to being a highly skilled linebacker.

Banks has been a step slow in pass coverage and blitzes so far this year too which has hurt us.

Good point. Plus a tackle ten yards down the field after blowing your lane responsibility carries the same weight as if you made a good tackle near the LOS. It doesn’t truly reflect how good a LB is.

Banks is night and day from when he first got here. I have gained so much respect for him these last 2 years. Dude can’t really pass cover at all lol but any runs close to him he absolutely destroys people.
