War in Ukraine

We pretty much agree here.

We're going to have to wait see how the winter pans out on the economic front. I would say some of the sanctions might end up doing damage to Russia's economy on the lower level, but at the end of the day the goods and materials people need will still be sold and probably at a markup. ???? The immediate damage is obviously to Europe itself. I don't know how an energy dependent business (especially one that relies on exports) could be operating in Europe now. If energy double or triples from here, well, I would say Europe would have a hard time surviving in its current form. Civilization runs off of cheap credit and cheap energy. (I am not predicting that per se though)

European NatGas Prices Soar As Moscow Tightens Screw On Supplies Via Nord Stream

News that Russia's energy giant Gazprom PJSC halted Nord Stream 1 pipeline flows to Europe sent natural gas prices soaring. European governments are preparing for a worsening energy crisis and the increasing probability of rationing.

Benchmark EU NatGas futures jumped as much as 35%, and electricity prices across the bloc soared. The unexpected cutoff also sent European equities into a downward spiral -- the euro hit a two-decade low.

If the purpose is for Europe to destroy itself than all this makes sense, otherwise.... not so much.

I don't know if there is a winning situation here for Putin as far as the rest of Europe goes. Driving large groups of people into despair (granted they should have never been dumb enough to hitch their wagons to him) can cause big shake-ups in leadership. New leaders across Europe may want to implement drastic measures. This is the way I see it.

I pretty much agree, nobody knows how it will turn out.... there are always risks. Living is dangerous to one's health my father would say. The last time Germany economically collapsed started the world onto the road to 40-80m people taken off the ledger. In today's world, you don't feed 7+ billion without a functional cheap credit and energy system. The price if the world comes to that will be on another scale if it happens this time, imo, billions.

I would say the world is onto a path of darkness, if a change of course is not done on a massive scale. Of course, a failure in that attempt (change course) could lead to an acceleration to the darkness.

It might be already too late to save many.

Whether intentional or because of stupidity.... this is what the world has become in the critical thinking process. Hard to imagine seeing those same people providing the cure for the diseases they caused.

So many socialists in Europe especially absolutely do not understand this. They are beginning to though. Already getting knocked back 75 years in time. People in Poland waiting in line for DAYS to get a load of coal for the winter to keep warm. they haven't had to burn coal in years. Lots of people in Germany already switching back to wood for winter. Totally backtracking in time and totally backtracking on their votes to put the climate alarmist leftists in charge. Like him or not, Trump warned them about this, and they laughed at him.

Russia Admits Weaponization Of Gas, Halts NS1 Shipments "Until Sanctions Lifted" As EU Prepares Response To Energy Crisis

... on Monday Russia finally admitted what everyone has known since February - namely that it has weaponized commodities in response to the West's weaponization of currencies (as Zoltan Pozsar has said all along),when the Kremlin said that Russia’s gas supplies to Europe via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline will not resume in full until the “collective west” lifts sanctions against Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine.
Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, blamed EU, UK, and Canadian sanctions for Russia’s failure to deliver gas through the key pipeline, which delivers gas to Germany from St Petersburg via the Baltic sea.
“The problems pumping gas came about because of the sanctions western countries introduced against our country and several companies,” Peskov said, according to the Interfax news agency. “There are no other reasons that could have caused this pumping problem.”

Peskov’s comments were the most stark demand yet by the Kremlin that the EU roll back its sanctions in exchange for Russia resuming gas deliveries to the continent. It also confirms that Russia no longer needs to pretend it needs to export commodities to Europe - after all it has more than enough demand in China and India - and is willing to give Europe just enough to rope to... well, you know the rest.

I would say its officially escalation on the RU side now, not much wordsmith going on now. Straight to the point.

Its hard to imagine how the Europe can walk all this back, the new politicians types pretty much just continuously lead lemmings into the pit. I think a double+ from Friday and things will go way beyond the interesting phase.

Russia didn't weaponize gas. The West and their sanctions weaponized gas. Now, Putin is simply engaging in malicious compliance. Putin I suppose doesn't want to sell them any gas because that would be in violation of their sanctions.

Yeah. Its a strange thing when ultimately Putin is complying with the goal of the sanctions more than Europe. ;) We live in crazy times... they're mad if they get gas, they're mad if they don't get gas. Insanity putting in overtime.

They can't walk it back. Either stick with it until you get yourself off Russian energy or allow them to dictate your own foreign policy to you. Hard pill to swallow but I suggest they swallow it.

Which is why I say this is ultimately and potentially leading to a collapse there and possibly a reset globally. The Russians are saying the same thing. We'll see how the Russians being cutoff things changes the direction if any in the medium term. A double from Friday, and its hard to envision how Europe can even exist. ??????

Either stick with it until you get yourself off Russian energy

They were faking the process of getting off of Russian energy, now its being managed by the other side.

Europe could have cut flow a long time ago. They were and are playing pretend.

It never gets old watching the Germans laugh at Trump and a few years later they find out he was right, and they are going to probably have their worst winter since WW2. I detest those arrogant bastards.

They would never admit he is right. That's the worst part about it, these people just keep going with the next insane thing. A plan or just stupidity, or combination.... I'm not sure but all of this doesn't look good. It seems like a large portion of the white countries are heading to suicide.

Keep my story straight? You guys flip flop from one false story to the next LOL.

Six months in and russia is still trying to hold land 40 miles from their border. Reports are that they're now trying to enlist the homeless.

Is this what winning looks like to you putin nut huggers?

Lol. I never said they were winning. I see that reading compensation is something you are still lacking. Some things never change.

Do you really think anyone here is buying anything put out by Zero Hedge. You might as well be quoting Tass.

U.S. Reportedly Accuses Financial Blog Zero Hedge Of Publishing Russian Propaganda

BTW contrary to what you and the other three blithering idiots are claiming the West does not have it's panties in a wad over energy supplies and the economy. If you take a little time and trouble to do a real search you will find the European countries are working together to mitigate these issues. And just a reminder: By not selling gas to Europe they have cut their own cash flow as well.

Macron: France, Germany to provide each other with gas, electricity, to weather crisis

Germany keeps two nuclear reactors on standby to weather gas crisis

Gaz on my mind...

Europe's horror...but do you "sell" the news?

German 1 year baseload is soaring today, but we remain way below the panic highs we just saw recently. Our "European equity risk is too low" logic has played out well, but given the move higher in the V2X, and the fact the "event" (no more gas) has played out, the prudent investor should fade some of the long European equity protection logic.

I think this is where I'm at currently. Obviously, this will be a shock to the system, how much shock right now is the debate. Right now there are some industries there that already starting to shutdown, so my question would be more the spiral effect down. So, in theory Europe's problem could be at max pain now or soon (short-term). and ease somewhat till next year. The issue the article doesn't get into much is any further spiral effect as a result of medium term deterioration of the economic system.

So... you get an easing of energy price but this comes at a cost of economic output.
