Elvis created the bridge between rock & roll and the blues at that time. Dad was a HUGE Elvis fan (still on my playlist today) and I grew appreciation over time. Nothing to do with his looks, and still to this day, donโt. He was what lead me as a white teen girl to Marvin Gaye, Anita Baker (favorite), Aretha, Gladys Knight and The Pips, etc.Imo, if rock n roll had an "inventor", it was Little Richard (Elvis called him the greatest); and, Chuck Berry should ALWAYS be in that conversation, as well.
Elvis is the king because he is still the biggest, most important rock star that has ever lived; and, because he was an amazing, badass rock n roller, no matter who created the material. He has sold more than a BILLION records worldwide. He inspired those that inspired EVERYONE else. Most found Little Richard, Chuck Berry, James Brown, and all the other greats THROUGH Elvis. I'd have no idea who Little Richard was, if not for Elvis, and neither would John Lennon and the like.
