Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

what about the guy who coached on the other side of the ball from david cutcliffe?
Parish is the best whose known as The Chief. I'll take his dunks over Olajuowon and blocking Kareem's sky hook over anything Chavis accomplished. And he has the edge on championship rings.

The best center to ever play football though was Dwight Stephenson.

not even the best center in C's history. Barely edges out Cowens

I'm no NBA expert but I've always thought that, for a team, over the course of a season, more weight should be put on assists by a center than points or spectacular plays. The center is in a unique position in that respect.

Some names might surprise you, albeit I can't find broken down in assists per minute played.

Chief? There's only one Chief and that's the greatest center to ever play the game of basketball - Robert Parish.
You think Robert Parish is the greatest center to ever play the game of basketball? You must be joking. I'm not saying that Parish wasn't good because he was. However, he isn't even in the conversation for greatest center to ever play the game of basketball.

The middle 80’s Celtics were LOADED. Maybe the best over all team ever fielded. Parish was good but he had a great cast around him.

Bird, Parish, McHale, Walton.

The same guy that spilt time with Kevin McHale?

My bad.
He was 6-10..looked like a Center.
Oh and McHale looked like a corpse.

In addition to being possibly the best team ever they were clearly the ugliest team ever.

Bird: ugly white goofy dude with that porn stash
McHale: looked like a corpse
Parish: the missing link
Ainge: permanent cry baby face.

🤷‍♂️

I know. I grew up watching them. Remove Larry Bird from that team, and they would have won exactly zero NBA championships with that team though.

Yep they were my fav team of that era too. My dad was a Celtics fan so I inherited that.

Even without Bird they would have still be a strong team but Bird also had a lot to do with the synergy of that team. A Bird, Jordan, or Johnson just elevates the play of the whole team.

Had it not been for the 80's Lakers teams, the Celtics would have likely been able to win championships even without Bird. However, they ended up needing everything they had.

The Celtics/Lakers matchups in the NBA Finals in the 80's were legendary.
Also don’t forget Philly in the finals during that era. I couldn’t remember who it was but I knew there was another strong team and looked it up.

Of course the 90’s were the era of the Bulls and Jordan.
