Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

That's odd that my reply to Hog showed up as a reply to your post, I'm sure I replied to him, because I never make a mistake.

I had my heat pump replaced around this time about 3 years ago. My air handler is in the garage and I happened to walk out there to check on the progress about the time the guy was brazing the line set. He took the time to explain to me what the TXV valve did and when he brazed the line near it, he had some sort of heat sink he clamped on the line before the valve and also put a wet towel around the valve.

I've found that if you can find an independent guy that owns his own business and actually works out of their own shop, you can't beat them. $1000 for a hundred dollar valve and an hour or 2 of labor sounds excessive to me.

I agree. Unfortunately I've never used an independent small business guy. When I bought the house the previous owner was kind enough to leave a list of contacts who had worked on the house. I've recently had people telling me about the small businesses they use but I was a little nervous with a two year old unit plus not much time to ponder and bid out the job in the heat.

On the sidewalk in the neighborhood this morning while doing my morning walk. A 14-16” tan/brown danger stick fully armed and loaded. No I didn’t get any closer than this.

Sent a notice to the neighborhood group to try a prevent a kid from getting bit.

I enjoy killing venomous snakes. They are vile, evil creatures of scorn. Try to educate folks about not killing king snakes, garden or garter snakes, black racers, and any other non venomous snakes. They are great to have around to eat rodents and dangerous snakes. We have copperheads, eastern rattlers, and water moccasins (cotton mouth) where i live. Happy to have King snakes around to kill them. There is a 4 footer that hangs out in my crawl space sometimes when its hot as Hades.

I had nothing with me and wasn’t close to the house or I’d have killed it. But I could see how this was going to play out I go home and get a hoe, pellet gun, or shovel then go back and don’t see it. Then start poking around and get my idiot hillbilly ass bitten when I step on/beside it and don’t see it. So I just sent up the alarm flag and moved on.

I leave non poisonous snakes alone. I don’t like them but they aren’t a threat. All pit vipers need to die. And where that one was is a frequent area where the neighborhood kids play.

Best way to kill chipmunks is to fill a 5 gallon pail of water and pour in seed. They get in and drown.

I thought your sidewalk pressure washing maintenance was rather lacking

Have posted this here years ago, but i had several squirrel families that would chew their way thru my siding and soffit to nest in our 24in wide boxing every spring and then reproduce. Hunted them with pellet guns, cut off tree limbs, greased the power line with vasoline...i tried everything for 3 or 4 years of me replacing house and them tearing it all to hell again...they would run around the perimeter of of my roof on that 2 foot wide flat spot like it was a race track.

I finally figured it out: bought a big azz jar of chunky peanut butter and a box of rat poison. Mixed them together on a sunny saturday morning and left spoonfulls where i knew they traveled. On top of my shed, box on telephone pole, anybwhere they could get to but dogs could not from my neighbors etc . I killed nearly every squirrel in the neighborhood. They have never come back, dont see them in my yard or trees...peanut butter is like crack to small animals. Squirrels for some reason people tend to like and tolerate...while every other rodent sans bushy tail is cause for immediate panic and murder? Have never understood that. Heck with squirrels man. If they would have left us alone theyd still be alive .

Was that a girl in the red hair screaming out at the beginnìng?

Apparently. But, I don't remember her being part of the group when I saw them that night.
They were so good that night that when 3 Dog Night (main attraction) came out to perform their songs ... the crowd wanted more of Black Oak. We almost booed 3 Dog off the stage.

In the late 60's 3 dog night had alot of top songs. Brings back some good memories
