That was his number I used. The wage needed to afford to live is much higher. It's unsustainable unless people just accept prices will go much higher for everything. Adjustable housing is a real problem around the country given where people are located and our shoddy transportation infrastructure

So who does their jobs? If you're paying attention right now there is a shortage. You can't live an hour away from a job paying $15/hr

Shortage or doing more with less? Companies can have hiring signs up and not do anything as long as it’s business as usual with what they have.

I've never said it was a right but rather it shouldn't be impossible. Cities and towns are doing everything they can to make it so. They want the labor but not the residents. We see how that's working out for them

I agree whole heartedly with that...but when a 2 bed under 800 square feet is costing 1200. In a poor area. That'd not affordable

Sure you can. It’s called sacrifice or find a place closer that may be more suitable to the $15. The employer gives you a job and pay, it’s not their job to provide a nice place in the job agreement.

Are you not paying attention to what's going on? Many businesses are struggling. I see almost as many signs asking for patience given the labor market as I do help wanted. Goods are not moving thru the supply chain on time and there are fewer trucks to move it once it's ready. I know most are a few days to weeks behind.

Again, have you even looked at prices lately? They've tried your idea and look how well it's working.

Sure. Stated above that restaurants have open tables and waits because they can’t hire/afford the wage increase. Do more with less. I’ve seen it in my industry for years working with hospitals, one employee moved in/retires etc. they filter the workload across those remaining. Seems like those seeking employment should seek a trade like trucking to help with supply chain.

It could be easier. As a LL I would provide low income housing for:
- Exemption on property taxes
- exemption on cap gains tax for the property
- dollar for dollar credit against rental income on my taxes.
- a modest monthly stipend from the municipality.
- access to zero interest lending for Reno, expansion, and new development.

The unaffordable places always pay more to their service industry. It’s pretty well known. That’s why so many in poorer areas will drive to work in bigger markets.

The cities “work” on these issues are more likely the problem than the solution

let me give you a situation in my area of work. As I said earlier I’m 100% commission and live comfortably and also have a wife who is a teacher. The last few years I’ve interviewed graduates and those non-degree to do what I do. They get a small salary to start but after a period of 9 months to a year it’s 100% commission. You either sink or swim. I walked in the break area a few weeks ago and saw a young lady struggling watching a show on her phone. Air pods always in her ear, she will cycle herself out while her friend who we hired a few months prior will be close to 85-100K this year.

Many are already being offered and matching finders for development. Problem is so much more can be made right now with traditional multifamily that no one needs to work on the affordable part (yet)

Great anecdote yet completely irrelevant to the question posed. The problem with many of the posts on here is the ignore a significant part of the population. There is and will always be a bottom, the "least of these" if you will. There are also those who don't want 2 jobs and hours of commute just to make ends meet. I considered turning down a recent job offer with 40% raise and stock for similar reasons. At a certain point life has to have more meaning

It's been a while since I was in the meetings but I do know many tax incentives and even matching dev funds were offered. Still not lucrative enough for most
