‘23 GA LB CJ Allen (UGA Commit)

It could be Georgia would not accept his commitment right now or he wants to get it over with and out of respect to Tennessee coaches he will visit them and commit next week

Right, that's the $64K question. Everyone thinks he's a heavy UGA lean, and that could be true despite being a Vol lean not that long ago. So why not just commit to the homestate school who is the defending national champs after taking his OV there?

On Thursday 247Sports made a tune-up to its Top247 rankings for the 2023 class and four players entered the list. One of them is Barnesville (Ga.) Lamar County linebacker and longtime Georgia priority target CJ Allen. Allen saw his rating rise from a 90 to a 94 and in doing so, his ranking went from No. 272 on 247Sports to inside the top 100, at No. 60 overall. He is now the No. 3 linebacker and No. 3 overall recruit in Georgia on 247Sports.

247Sports analyst Gabe Brooks discussed Allen's rise.
Allen possesses an elite profile in regards to an off-ball linebacker projection. His size (6-1, 217) at this point in his development, his extensive two-way snaps, and his layered athletic context reflect countless recent NFL Draft picks at linebacker. The Barnesville (Ga.) Lamar County standout ran for 1,080 yards and 16 touchdowns on 9.6 yards per carry in 2021, when he added 91 tackles, 7 1/2 for loss, three sacks, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one recovery. Allen has recorded at least 84 tackles in each of the last three seasons.
A unique track and field profile includes an 11.16-second 100-meter time and a 45-foot, 6-inch shot put throw and accompanies noteworthy basketball context (7.7 points per game as a junior). For even more context to his obvious field athleticism, Allen ran an electronic-timed 4.62 40-yard dash at MVP Camp in Georgia last summer. With continued vetting of the 2023 linebacker board, Allen looks more and more like one of the elite prospects in the class.
Allen took his official visit to Georgia last week and is set to take official visits to Auburn this weekend, to USC next weekend, and to Tennessee in two weeks. Georgia is looking to sign three inside linebackers this cycle and assistant Glenn Schumann has the Dawgs in the mix for seven of the best in the country, all giving Georgia official visits in June. Tallahassee (Fla.) Lincoln four-star and Michigan commitment Raylen Wilson took his official visit with Allen last week. Georgia will have two in town this weekend in Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit four-star LB Troy Bowles and Jacksonville (Fla.) Jackson four-star linebacker Grayson Howard, another two next weekend (Whit Weeks, Semaj Bridgeman), and another the final weekend in June (Tony Rojas).

Vols going to be pressing hard here that he's one of a ton of dudes UGA is considering whereas we've been recruiting him much longer and with much more gusto.

Any idea if Georgia would take his commitment right now?

Hard to say. My instinct says yes but there's no doubt we would, and there's the difference the staff should be pressing hard on. Especially because for a while we were the clear cut leader.

AP said yes even though he’s not a first choice on their LB board. This was a couple weeks ago that was said.
Thought it was a month ago not that it matters much. I guess it’s all about how they feel they sit with other players higher on their board.
