Threet to transfer out of Michigan

Threet is god awful. Even the Michigan fans are glad he's gone.

We won't take any QB transfers in. We already 3 QB's now, which is more than enough, and we don't need any terrible ones coming in and eating a scholarship. What we need is quality, which is what will happen when we probably pull in 2 top tier guys after next season

Yeah I don't think you can blame the transfers on him.

He signed with GA Tech before Paul Johnson came, who runs Triple Option.

Went to Michigan with Lloyd Carr, then Rich Rod came and he runs a spread, QB run type offense.

I would let him come, but I think i'd rather have Simms or Heaps.

Agreed. he is the victim of coaching changes. He will end up at a lower level college where he doesnt have to sit out.

He had no intentions of beating Bennet out. He enrolled at GT in December. Following the Bowl Season, Johnson came in with a new system, and Threet transferred. He didn't transfer because he couldn't start. It was because he didn't want to. He then transferred to Michigan under Lloyd Carr, and he subsequently retired. Under Rodriguez, they now run another system that requires a running QB.

This kid must feel snake bitten,,, LOI and bam coach is gone,,, transfer and bam coach retires with replacement running a spread. I say the more competition the merrier and maybe if he is capable of making a good decision he has had Michigan contact Tennessee about bringing him on roster. I am sure Rich Rod could care less if he plays for us this year or next or ever.

Why the hell is it that whenever anybody stands up for someone, and others disagree, they are immediately accused of being related?
To answer your question, no I am not related. I have no connection to him whatsoever. I do, however, want to see competition at the QB position. What do you base your information on? He played in 11 of 12 games for Michigan this year, which is more than anyone on our team can say. He completely over 50% of his passes, had 9 touchdowns, and completed over 100 passes in a run-happy offense.

I agree with you. I think he should've played all of last year because the other guy, his name escapes me at the moment, is GARBAGE. I think it wouldn't hurt to give him a shot.

I got news for you - the one & only - you should know your facts before speaking. FYI Threet was the starting QB @ GT and the only reason Bennett got the job was because Threet transferred. GT coaches were very disappointed that he left because they felt like he was going to be an outstanding QB. This kid is a very good QB and for the most part played very well in 2008 for Mich.

We got a nice juicy crop of young QB's to choose from this coming recruiting season...That guy can go play Jr college ball...He'll be better off, We will be gunning for Montana and some of those other studs that will be out there...Like Coach Kiffin says, Why get a player that's just going to sit on the bench for 4 years?

Threet did not play "very well" for Michigan.

102/200 for 1105 yards with 9 TDs and 7 INTs.

Thats a 51% completion rate.

In comparison, Jonathon Crompton had

86/167 for 889 yards, 4 TDs and 5 INTs.

Those numbers are very similar to Threet in terms of completion and yards per attempt.

Michigan fans are celebrating the fact that he's gone.

What Michigan fans are saying

People should be able to be legitimately "marked for trolling" if they laugh at Michigan for Threet leaving.

Threet did not have even a decent arm, and was awful at running. Don't act like you know something about him- because you're analysis of him is completely backwards. As for "have fun with Nick Sheridan"... have fun what? Watching him on the side lines? That kid isn't going to be anywhere near the huddle. The two 4 star DUEL THREAT (unlike Threet and Sheridan last year) QB's brought in will.

Threet was one of the worst QB's in the country last season...

Really tho, laughing at Michigan for one of their worst QB's of all time leaving? No. More like thanks for making a topic for us to celebrate in.

"He was actually good too... from what I saw, he had a decent arm and wasn't awful running it either."
And in response to this, one of them said
I'm still laughing my ass off that somebody actually said this about Steven Threet. Good? Decent arm? And complimenting his ability to run?

This guy has no idea how he is completely wrong on all accounts here.

I hope so. I think it's odd that we have not offered him yet, considering we have already offered 65-70 kids for next year, according to John Brice from Volquest. I think this kid is really gonna be good. According to his Dad, he is just now peaking and is going to get better. He is listed as a Dual Threat QB, and an article I read said he was an athletic QB that can also throw. Not sure if Kiffin doesn't think he fits our system or what. He already holds offers to these schools...

Ohio State, Maryland, LSU, South Carolina, Florida State, Stanford, Arizona and Nebraska.

He couldn't beat out Stephens because Coach Rod wouldn't let him. Same with our Stephens and Coleman.

Yeah, I was talking about UT's Stephens.

You thinking Nick Sheridan, the other Michy QB?

I'm interested to see how Ryan Mallett, another Michy QB transfer, works under Petrino. Bazooka for an arm, but the kid is a statue back there. B10 defenses aren't typically that great in OOC games, and in my opinion, a lot of it is speed. Pretty bad when Mallett made Chad Henne look like a burner.

You seem awfully sure of your talent evaluation skills. I think it's funny that you assume he's not a veteran. For all we know, he could be exceptionally savvy and quick to learn a playbook.

In other words, if our staff wants him then I'll trust their opinion.

Yeah, I am. When I see terrible, I know it. Call it a gift if you wish.

RIght, right, my bad. For some reason, I see Stephens as a Michigan QB name. I don't know. I think he would give Stephens competition, but Coleman should be the starter IMO.

the fact that someone actually made a thread about this guy blows my mind. This guy is quite possibly one of the worst qbs in NCAA. He made Crompton look like Joe Montana last year. At least Crompton, Stephens, and Coleman have potential. I wouldn't even let Threet on my flag football team

I think we will have enough competition between STephens,Crompton,And Coleman............Personally I think COLEMAN will be the better of the three.....Cutcliffe loved the kid and tried to get him to go to DUke with him...But BJ is a diehard Volunteer

From the games I watched last year, Threet looked like a very talented kid, in the wrong system. He was having to do Read Options, and when it was there for the QB to keep the ball and run he did everything he was supposed to right, he just wasn't fast....but the kid still tucked it away and fought for yards, and I would rather have a guy that is out there busting his balls for yards, then expecting everything handed to him like some 5 star freshman out of a Private high school. The kid had an arm, idc what people say I saw him hit recievers in stride against Illinois, Wisconsin, and Purdue. The kid looked like a very good Pro Style QB, and a good kid, I wouldn't mind having him on our roster, ESPECIALLY a roster that has Stephens, and Crompton on it.....I'm not saying the kid could win us a title, or even start for us, but giving a scholarship to a battle tested upperclassmen, who is a fighter on the field, and at the very least could mentor the younger kids would not be a bad idea.....

If we get Heaps in our next class he would be leaving for a mormon mission and we woud need a veteran signal caller....why not keep that in mind?

Threet needs to go to a DivII program, so he can start right away. He doesn't look like he's Div I quality.

Being that I watch a lot of Michigan football I have to say that Threet is not absolutely terrible but I don't want him to come to Tennessee we have enough QB drama...Threet reminds me too much of Crompton in that he is so inconsistent..he has flashes of good maybe even great but he will not help the vols in ANY way

Anyone heard where this kid is transferring to. Just read he is leaving Michigan. Pro-style QB that had just transferred to Michigan from GT two years ago. Poor guy just can't find a home.

Steven Threet Leaving Michigan - NCAA Football FanHouse

Now I know as of now, he hasn't even hinted at the least as to where he is transferring to. But maybe, just maybe, he is aware of our QB problem. And may show some interest in being a Vol. We all know Kiffin can show him a good time and talk him into transferring here. As of now, this looks like the option to save our QB situation this year.

We can only hope that he notices our QB situation. We know why he has transferred 100 times. Because he does't want to compete. I can gauranty he won't have any problem beating Crompton, Stevens, and Coleman.

From what I've seen, in his days as a UM starter. He looked fine, he is't great by any means. But by far, he is an upgrade over any QB we have right now. Now I don't know what yall's opinions are on Threet. But I would like to know: How do yall grade him ? Would yall welcome him here in Tennessee ? Would he fit in with the new system ? And any other thoughts ?

Thanks,

wouldn't help this year, he can't play for another team until 2010, unless he changes divisions....
