The PGA tour's $40 million PIP program was apparently a failed attempt to keep players like Fowler on board. Fowler has been outspoken that his popularity on social media has been a major factor in attracting fans, TV coverage, etc. Unfortunately for him, Tiger Woods won the $8 million PIP first prize, rightfully so. (Not sure how much Ricky got, but obviously he thinks he can make more money on LIV tour.)Looking like DeChambeau, Reed, and Fowler are going to the LIV.
DeChambeau is another guy who seems to be more interested in impressing fans with his long drives than his results in tournaments. So not surprised with him leaving either.
I think it's hypocritical to say that Tiger deserves his millions because of his immense popularity with golf fans, and then saying that popular guys like Ricky don't deserve any more money than what they can win in tournaments. Ricky has been playing poorly lately, but he's very popular, especially with young fans.
