Double Gauldens/Becks to anyone who doesn’t like HHI.Ground report from Jackcrevol's most overrated beach destination that the rest of humanity seems to like pretty well.
Have never seen so many TN license plates or met so many Vol fans in all my days here in HHI. It has been a blast to talk with some of them and hear "Go Vols" so much. Wear a Vol hat or T-shirt and you cannot walk far without somebody talking with you. Even rivals and fans of non-conference schools are talking Vol baseball and asking if Heup will get it done in football. Love us or hate us - it is clear they want us back in the national conversation.
Met a guy from outside Columbus, OH with his in-laws and family. OSU football fans. Yet - they love the Vol baseball team. The in-laws now live in Murphreesboro. Turns out he is a family friend with a young man who is graduating from a neighboring school to where I grew up who is a pitcher who is committed to Louisville. He may never make it there as MLB teams are talking about drafting him in the top couple of rounds. In the conversation the guy states he is a Braves fan - highly unusual for an Ohio resident with the Reds and Guardians there. He stated that his first cousin pitches for the Mariners and I might remember him since he pitched for the Vols - Drew Steckenrider. Pitched and played with the Vols from 2010-12. Turns out he and Drew are from the Atlanta area. Which explains his happiness for the Vols' success and allegiance to the Braves even in Buckeyeland.
You never know what you may learn when you just visit with folks...
I hope the NCAA, the conference, the umps and our rivals continue to try and screw us. It only adds fuel to our fire and if they think we cannot endure, then they are sadly mistaken.Rish and a couple other posters pointed that out when the brackets were announced.
Our guys said, bring 'em on. Mark of a champion.
It's about time our school and fans figured out we don't need to go along with anybody else to be elite in any sport we choose to dominate. Stop trying to copy what others do well. Be ourselves. Innovate and grind. Hire the right program leaders. Check.
Voltello and this group of brothers are clearly showing the way. They have the support of Danny, Donde and Randy.
We are going to be similar in football. The good ole boy network will stack the decks as best as they can. We need to literally run them into the ground. If a team Kiffins us - we should do likewise on D and just make a mockery of the game to embarrass the SEC and NCAA. Danny knows how to handle it behind closed doors. Use the excellent production and analytics to document and demonstrate. Throw it in the good ole boys faces. Let fans and supporters push video examples and stats in social media to reinforce. They will have no choice but to back off.
There are ways...
Embrace being villains who are clean living champions in every sport. Respect is earned.
Would I do it? No, unless someone was talking tons of trashI'll say this, IMHO flipping off opponents is a bad look.
But I agree, the ESPN announcer was a MUCH poorer look, and ESPN should consider that when considering what stories to hyperventilate clicks with.
Some of my Mississippi State buddies were asking me about that. Basically said I don't think single moments are an indictment of character. And admittedly it's easier to dismiss when you're a fan of the player/team and easier to vilify when you're the opposition. I think if a GT player did that to us, many on here would have taken issue imo. It happens. Also is anyone really bothered that Beck gave the old middle finger to the CF after getting one in over him?
I mean I think anyone that's played any sort of sport at a competitive level has been there...both sides of that coin. Either chirping or being chirped at.
Like I said last night, bunch of you are not going to make it through this entire tournament. They are going to lose some games in it. No way we will go undefeated all the way to and in Omaha. Their pitcher has maybe 2 inning left in him. Then let's see what happens.
I still don't think he flipped the bird. Someone said he was doing the "Missed it by that much" thing. I tend to believe that. Doesn't make sense that he's flipping the bird and there's no umpire losing his mind over it. JMO
yeah, and? we take no prisoners here.I had to come to the football forum to find out about baseball![]()
