Well, which is it? First you're saying Meyer didn't know, then you're defending him by saying Nuke should've hung up on hiim?! Of course Meyer knew - heck, we all knew he was here, it wasn't a big secret!

Because someone said he did know. I figured if Kiffins plan was so good about him lying that he wouldn't know.

If he signs with UT then he would be ruled ineligible by the NCAA. Just like Bumphis with MSU.

Not according to the NCAA rule book

13.10.2 Comments Before Signing. Before the signing of a prospective student-athlete to a National
Letter of Intent or an institution’s written offer of admission and/or financial aid, a member institution may comment
publicly only to the extent of confirming its recruitment of the prospective student-athlete. The institution
may not comment generally about the prospective student-athlete’s ability or the contribution that the prospective
student-athlete might make to the institution’s team; further, the institution is precluded from commenting
in any manner as to the likelihood of the prospective student-athlete’s signing with that institution. Violations of
this bylaw do not affect a prospective student-athlete’s eligibility and are considered institutional violations per
Constitution 2.8.1.

Taken directly from the 08-09 book

if a secondary violation is committed during the recruitment of a player, then the player can be declared ineligble and they'll be reinstated by the NCAA in 24-48hrs. that is relatively routine procedure.

Bumphis has already been ruled eligible after his brief status as ineligible.

This was done with our recruits regarding the use of the smoke machine as well. They were immediately re-instated by the NCAA

See how silly this gets.

NCAA's distorted concern: Kiffin mentioned the name of a recruit that half the world of college football knows was on campus.

Common sense:
1) Referring to a man by his name is acceptable behavior.

2) Interrupting a 48-hour clock during a recruit's visit to try to alter that experience is not.

Btw... I don't have a problem with mock press conferences and smoke either.

It is unclear whether the violation occurred because Kiffin mentioned Brown by name or because he referred to Brown as a “great player."

From the article above.

Now, just imagine you had not spent an enormous amount of time deciphering the NCAA code.

By publicizing this statement, what we know as college football fans, is that Kiffin thinks Brown is a great football player.

Thank goodness the NCAA has protected me from hearing CLK say such things about other players he has recruited. :)

Brown was at the game with Lane and guess who...Jon Crompton.

The is really a scary thought. I guess Crompton was not insulted by BB statement about the talent level. The thought process of seeing them in same backfield together means BB goes somewhere else. Did Brown leave at halftime?
