Gun control debate (merged)

Let me ask you something. We cannot stop the flow of drugs and illegals. What makes you think we could stop the flow of weapons into this country?

What kind of people are committing mass murders with AR-15s and AK-47s? They are often first time gun purchasers, who walk out of licensed gun dealerships after passing a background check. Do I think a ban on the manufacture and sale of such weapons would have stopped most of them? Yes.

What about a ban on drugs?

Typical ignorant right-wing comment, ignoring the proven fact that our population has a continual supply of idiots who prove themselves incapable of owning a high capacity firearm without committing mass murder. When you add an AR-15 to a bad minded idiot, what do you expect will happen?
So you are admitting that its a problem with the person not the gun itself. Yet you want to ban certain guns

No, you miss the point, which you should realize without assistance. The problem is a combining of certain types of people with certain types of guns. The reality is that so long as high capacity, high powered rifles are available to the general public, they will be purchased and used by numbers of bad minded individuals to commit mass murders.

Typical left wing idiocy. What percentage of th population commits mass murder?

What do we do when those same people find different ways to commit mass murders? Banning guns does not solve the problem because guns are NOT the problem.

I've shared this story before, so apologies to those who have already heard it. I'm a solid supporter of the 2nd but also in the "something needs to be done but I don't know what" camp.

Long story short, I had an employee attempt suicide and spend a couple weeks in a mental health facility. He was released on a Saturday and came to work the following Monday. He came in and provided me with is "return to work" release form, etc.

While on his lunch break, he purchased a handgun at a local store, came back to work and was showing everyone pictures of it, was telling them that it was in his car "but I can bring it in if anyone wants to see it"

Obviously this freaked everyone out, and I had the cops come And escort him off the premises.

So, again I don't know what the solution is but it seems like someone 5hst was released from a mental health facility 48 hours prior should be able to purchase a firearm.

Apples to oranges comparison- 15 minutes to buy a gun, 6 weeks to close on a mortgage

Yep. There has to be a way.

I asked this question and got no response. What if a state had a “gun buyer” license? With it, one could buy as many guns as they like. It’s requirements could be directed at weeding out those who have no business buying a gun. Even have a license capability to purchase an MP5 should one want to. Have different classes of licensing.

Of course, this is fraught with problems as well. Not going to stop those who took guns from their parents or idiot parents who gave their sociopathic son one to start with. Gun dealers are certainly not going to like it.

While typing this, had another thought: places like Chicago are going about this wrong. Require concealed weapons permits, make them more reasonable and rational to get, then bust the absolute hell out of anyone with a gun and no permit.

There should be a law against using weapons like that .

You mean (like I pointed out earlier) driving vehicles through crowds and stabbing people on crowded subway platforms and trains?

NYC just had a mass stabbing. Hell, in gun controlled Japan and China mass stabbings have become what I'd call "common".

That’s a tough situation. The problem with any red flag laws is that they will be abused. I think in your situation, maybe it’s best to hire off-duty police and/or allow those with permits to carry concealed.

My argument against this logic is bad people get what bad people want. If a killer wants to gain access to an assault rifle he's going to find a way to do that even if it's illegal. Does making drugs illegal make people stop using drugs?? The same thing applies to gun ownership. The only people this will hurt are the law abiding citizens. The 2nd amendment was put into place to protect citizens from a tyrannical government.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
Ask our Australian friends how giving up their arms went for them.

Quite accurate, they've slowly become totalitarian state.

New rule…..
No one is allowed to start a thread about „assault rifles“ without starting off by DEFINING „assault rife“. Please stop replying until the OP lays out the boundaries and basic scope of the discussion before wasting your time

Your missing the point. The neo-marxist need labels. It makes the fools feel better

That's the rest of the problem. If high capacity rifles are banned, the mass murders will continue. Police should be more willing to go forward against handguns, but the murders won't stop.

Take away "assault rifles" and you create a precedent for taking away guns. Where does it stop after that?

The only way to solve the problem is to identify the people that do these things before they do them. No amount of "banning" serves as a solution.
