Well, my van failed the state inspection. The right license plate bulb was dead. 😎

Since it's a minor issue, they're letting me swap the bulb and come back tomorrow instead of waiting a month. Now to cut the $600 check for moving to the state...
break some kneecaps, they'll get the message

When I lived in VA, they always found a light burned out somewhere. The garage doing the "safety check" just replaced it and charged you, so no way to prove they were wrong. Where we really had a problem was when they scraped my UT decal off the rear window - nothing (except the state safety sticker) could be on a window - could block the view. The safety sticker might have - there was no way to see the bottom of the rear window where the UT was from the driver's seat in a Pinto hatchback unless you had the rear seats folded down - the rear seats up were legal naturally. Since VA banned radar detectors, too, I always said VA was run by Nazis.

You got off easy! That DMV check is the first of many you’ll encounter in the state. I would also check to make sure you’re withholding your local taxes. Otherwise you’re going to end up having to write a check at the end of the year for about 3% of your fed taxable wages.

We've already found that out the hard way.

Our CPA in Tennessee just retired after this tax season, and I'm hoping to find one here in Maryland who will help us navigate how crazy it is.
