Well in the defense of the DoD/Pentagon, they have been out front on trying to pour cold water on these statements made by the media and The White House. So, there are at least a few people over there with some sense. Now, that doesn't mean that the DoD isn't participating, but they are aware that the optics are terrible if they are proven to be involved heavily.

If either side was dominant, this thing would be over. Russia vs. Ukraine with western help looks like a fairly even match right now. I thought Russia was going to win this easily. Putin seems to have thought that also.

A few months earlier I would have thought that Putin was likely to start something somewhere. I would not have known where. Now Ukraine is looking like it might be Putin's last big adventure. We need to be sure that it's Putin's last big adventure. I don't want us to have to put boots on the ground defending a small NATO country. Putin needs to lose some hardware and some confidence so we don't have to deal with anything worse.

I did not expect Europe to step up. Germany seems to be going from woke to awake, at least on some issues. Hopefully this will result in Europe handling security in Europe so we can shift our focus to our own problems and security in the Pacific.

I see folks on every side of the political spectrum destroying the flaccid bullet points and whataboutisims that keep getting retreaded day after day.

Let's put it this way, if you've got @happy-go_vol and @volgr slapping you on the back and agreeing with your position. It may be time to reexamine and recalibrate.

The true existential threat to us is a China invasion of Taiwan. No doubt, China is watching and learning from Putin's exercise.

Ukraine units are taking back towns in the north and territory in the east. Ukraine are reportedly just kilometers from the Russia border in several places. Ukraine may be able to enter russia soon.

In honesty don't think russia is going to come out the other side of this the same. Ukraine is going to want ALL of Ukraine back, plus compensation. They are publicly saying so now.

Ukraine has the manpower and resolve but not the means.

The western countries have the means but don’t belong in this fight.

So the west provides the means and Ukraine uses it to absolutely destroy Russia. Win win.

They might be able to take it, but given that military operations conducted by Russia have bogged down it's highly unlikely they'll be able to keep it.

I see nothing has changed in this thread. Ukraine supporters still living in their delusions as Russia slowly grinds toward achieving their goals. It was nice to see some Republicans finally wake up and vote against yet another waste of "aid" to Ukraine. What happened to the anti-war Left by the way? Have they gone extinct?

If you haven't heard Putin's speech from the the May 9th celebration, I would recommend it. Sadly, the guy is far more stable than any Western leader at the moment.

What goals exactly? They couldn't take Kiev, that offensive was stopped by the Ukrainians. They aren't making great gains in other places either.
