War in Ukraine

I love history... just don't always have all the details lined up for a great debate.... however, watching the History channel, Hitler invading of Austria smells a lot like what Putin is trying to do. Except Hitler was able to ride into Austria untouched... no issues for him. Now Putin on the other hand seems to have watched the same program and decided Ukraine would welcome him with open arms as well. So, much of the war in Ukraine has been played out 70 years ago... ultimately with results that Putin is not going to appreciate.

Sorry... pretty basic for some of you experts in here.
You think Putin just rolled out of bed and decided, "I'm going to invade Ukraine"? This was 8 years in the making. The Donbas Republics had referendums to join the Russian Federation right after the coup in 2014 and Putin refused to recognize them and accept them. His hope was that the Minsk talks would resolve the issue diplomatically.

If Putin was the person you all and the media make him out to be, he would have immediately pulled the Donbas republics into the fold back then and he would have grabbed Kazakhstan in January when it was for the picking.

It smacks of the old saw... If you ignore history, you are doomed to repeat it.
So why are we not criticizing the US for repeating the same mistakes that we made in South Vietnam? At first, we sent in military advisors in the late 1950s and it gradually escalated over roughly a decade into boots on the ground and a proxy war with the Chinese and Soviets halfway around the globe.

Only in this case, we would be lucky if we only loose 50k lives. This could end up in a nuclear exchange.

8 years of planning and what we have today is the result? They must have been passing around the hash pipe to have come up with this.

Weren’t you the one saying Putin wasn’t going to invade Ukraine? But now that he has, you’ve switched to telling us it was years in the making and plain to see lol…

Any nuclear exchange begins with the coward you nut hug.

Er, you may want to check how those places came to be part of the US. It has something to do with Tennessee Volunteers.
I understand how all that came to be...... And it's a part of my point. Do we really want to go back to a world with that land grabbing mindset in a time with the most destructive weapons ever known?

I was curious of the toll on the Ukrainian side and searched for "Ukrainian War Losses".
Almost all reports only cite the Russian losses .
Ukraine-Russian War 2022: Military Losses Official Statistics | UAwar This site has a tab for the Ukrainian losses and states HEROES NEVER DIE! instead of stats. It has to be taking a toll or Ukraine is Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl.

I find it hard to believe the Russian Army is this inept.

Look at where the Russian loss numbers come from, as well.

Of course, pointing out this particular bias makes me a Soviet-sympathizing pinko Commie Putinist.

Where did I say it was an 8 year plan? I said that he was relying on diplomacy to work.

And I did think it would not end up where we are now. One of the few calls I missed. I'm human.

Putin? Diplomacy?

This is the guy that assassinates his rivals or throws them in jail.

Putin is a thug, his kleptocratic regime is filled with corruption and whose diplomacy consists of bullying and intimidation. Ukraine is exposing the bully for what they are, frauds. I didn't think much of Russians before now, but now the whole world is looking at them as a giant low rent trailer park.

It's hilarious that you keep carrying the water for what we can all see with our own eyes.

This is why I don’t buy any stats coming out . Any combat that goes on for over a month will have casualties on both sides , no way we pump in billions of dollars into a conflict , not have spec ops on the ground / in the air and not have an idea just how much both sides have lost . I’m guess a mouse couldn’t fart in a field without somebody know about it but we can’t get a realist tally from both sides ? Not buying it .

Their annual V day parades have always come off a bit cultish to me and definitely the thing of dictatorships. I remember Trump wanting to hold a military parade and while I thought it would look cool to see all of stuff rolling down the street but I'm glad it didn't happen. The Ruskies can keep living in their Truman Show-esque fantasy world and parade what remains of their armor.

This is how I have always viewed Russia and its people living there. One big White trash trailer park with lots of track suits.
