War in Ukraine

Turkey is one of the largest buyers of Russian wheat and they have tried maintaining a diplomatic relationship with Russia.

That's a long way from saying that Turkey's future is to the east, which is what I responded to. The Russian GDP is less than half of California. If that's Turkey's future, it's not going to be good.

What do futures look like?
Futures? Not sure. All I know as of today is that Russia is commodities rich and they lead the world or are in the top 5 in the commodities that the world needs. All the West is doing is sanctioning themselves or removing available supply off the market, which will only raise prices. Even a dim light bulb like Janet Yellen realized a week or two back that Russia is still making money on lower volumes because of the increased prices.

Forget America for the moment... the Europeans have to realize that they cannot continue with this woke/green ideological battle that they cannot win with regards to sanctions. They need to tell the US/Biden Administration to f-off and do what is best for its citizens. I really hope for the sake of Europe that the window has not fully closed on them to resolve this diplomatically.

Interesting. Apparently Russian Lieutenants are keeping a low profile, or maybe Ukrainians don't take them seriously enough to waste ammunition.

If I were a Russian lieutenant, I’d be keeping a low profile too. No way do I want a battlefield commission to Colonel or, worse yet, General.

If it on their border and involving Russian speakers or ethnic Russians or however you want to classify those people, then yes, it is of Russia's concern.

Would the US not help US citizens or people with US connections that are under attack on the Mexican side of the border?

There are a couple of ways to look at this.

1 People from Country A migrated willingly as individuals to Country B

2 People from Country A were planted in Country B by by Country A when it ran a Soviet Union, and they never left Country B. They either stayed back as the basis for an insurgency, to spur unrest, or perhaps they liked it better there.

Insurgents and those seeking to disrupt deserve the treatment they get. Any of the others from Country A in Country B who aren't welcomed by their new host need to leave and write it off as a bad idea. There's no shortage of stories about foreign refugees being told prior to hostilities to leave - some people are smart about it and leave ... some aren't. N Vietnam staged a lot of insurgents, spies, and other disruptors in S Vietnam; and they were effective in the war. It's simple. Regardless of how someone came to live in a country hostile now hostile to them, they need to leave. That can be US citizens in Mexico or Russians in Ukraine.

But the Crusades, even though centered around religion, still ultimately came down to who controlled LAND (in this case the Holy Land)

What was the justification for cleansing and taking the land, though? You could make an argument that taking the counties along the Mediterranean coast was at least somewhat about land, but what use would Crusaders really have for huge interior desert wastelands before oil became a commodity.

I thought his health might have a role in his scorch the earth policy on his way out.

It could well be his policy dependent on mental state and disease progression; but if that were the case, you can imagine a cabal of others who would remove him before he did something stupid. Putin might be suicidal, but others with al their accumulated wealth and power probably have a far different view of MAD.

Not just China, but Russia, India, the Eurasian continent as a whole. Western Europe will obviously play a role, but it will be a more diminished one as time goes on simply because the Europeans demographically have issues and the energy decisions they are making right now will severely cripple their economies.
The energy decisions Europe is taking will add cost but will not be close to crippling. Of the countries and region mentioned, Europe is far ahead economically and will stay far ahead for quite a while. Turkey will have some trade with the East but there's nothing to indicate the East will replace the West for them.

Maybe the interior went with the coast as a package. And control of trade routes were a factor. And greed. The Crusaders attacked Christian targets too, because money.
