Big change in Madden 2010

If they are going to dumb down player ratings that much, they better make sure player progression works perfectly. I've seen plenty of top 15 draft picks only progress 2-4 points their entire career. If these guys are going to be in the low 70s starting out, long term franchises will suck horribly.

you think maybe this is a response to complaints of imported NCAA Football draft classes often having alot of players ranked really high when used in dynasties or something?

but if the bar is lowered universally, what difference does it make?

It depends on if the bar is lowered equally or not. Say entire Madden player ratings are down about 10 points across the board. And I'd say the top 5 rookies average an 89 rating on 09, which is arguably too high. They want to not have the top rookies that much better than the rest, so they knock the top rookies down 5-7 points. Then they apply the average 10 point lower ratings for players. So that puts the top rookies at around a 72-74 range. The total progression is minimal for rookies' careers (I think it is because I sim the games on franchise mode and just build my rosters) some don't progress at all, and the most I've seen is 4 points. Using the 4 points, the highest a rookie player will be rated in his career is a 78. Even with lower ratings, a 78 is not very good. So it makes building a franchise with the best college players no fun at all to me. And that is my main interest in Madden. I pretty much treat the game as an expansion pack for NCAA. I'm kind of wasted right now so I have no clue if any of that makes sense to anybody but me. :good!:
