War in Ukraine

Looks like somebody else wanting to get his butt kicked. Some people never learn.

Reminds me of watching the video of the kid harassing Mike Tyson on the plane.

I just remember thinking, of all people - why would you pick him to f*** with?

Poland is ready to enter the chat.

Eh SE Asia is probably a push. And boy has China thrown Russia’s ass out of Africa 😂

Without a doubt Russia is less a volume player and more targeted like in Venezuela. We got to visit Cuba a few years ago, and it was clear the Russians were gone, and China was moving in. Back in the good ole days of Soviet glory, Russia played everywhere; doesn't seem like they really have it in them anymore. You get the impression that when communism succeeds in pulling everybody down to equal mediocrity, things really go to pot ... especially when you do something stupid and decide to take on Afghanistan. And, yeah, we pulled our own dumb and dumber move on that one.

So, make sure I’m not misrepresenting what you’re saying, but there are currently 0 “Russian Oligarch” assets seized by a government for sale? Just want to be sure, because some of what you linked was from western death cults ;)

I’m not highly in tune with the moscow stock market so I could easily be wrong, but Feb 22 it appears the index was ~3084 and today it is ~2445. Can you clarify the favor?

I won’t keep us discussing because opinions aren’t changing. My reason from the beginning was to point out how Russia is right or gets a pass from you, but the rest of the world is wrong

Ukraine supporters? Or people who just don’t agree with Russia’s invasion of a sovereign country? If Ukraine or China invaded Russia, I’d have the same opinion that it was unjustified and wrong

True. But if China invaded Russia, I'd break out the popcorn and hope somebody was covering it live. That's like watching your two most hated football teams go at it and rooting for the officials and silently hoping for a meteor.

So this was correct? I mean, the US isn't some backwater country like Russia. Neither are the Ukrainians. We are freedom loving people that have set ourselves apart from the tyrants. Should that ever be going on in this country or Ukraine?
No it wasn’t correct. What we did to many German and Japanese Americans was blatantly wrong. Sadly history shows is this ethnic based distrust is a goto reaction

War isn't a game. We didn't treat antiwar protestors during Vietnam as traitors, but I'd hope we would feel differently if another country invaded the US or we were in a fight like a world war. There's nothing wrong with people questioning our involvement in Ukraine or other places when our survival isn't at stake. I happen to agree with you about most of our recent involvements. The one exception being supporting Kuwait when Iraq invaded. One country invading another without real provocation just isn't kosher. It may be old fashioned, but I do believe in assisting a country attacked by another country if asked - otherwise, there is no respect for nations and borders - just worldwide anarchy.

I’d be all like “you gonna take that 💩 nuke his ass or you don’t have a hair on yours. I triple dog dare ya!”

Just like no foreign investors have had none of their holdings confiscated in Russia. You were the one that opened all of this up by saying Russia was "seizing individuals' assets".

For right now, nothing has happened on either side, but let's see which side ends up blinking first and starts to steal assets...

OK, I've already been through this before with other people and have been accused of whataboutism, so I don't want to go down this road with you. You at least sound somewhat reasonable for now. But I just wonder if you will remember the highlighted the next time a NATO country or US ally decides to invade a country.

Arestovych is a piece of work. Phase 3 only has these 3 outcomes? Interesting... So if any other possibilities or outcomes occur, he will come back with an explanation, right?

Arestovych Considers 3 Scenarios For Development Of 3rd Phase Of War After Battle For Donbas | Ukrainian news (ukranews.com)

- Russians will stand still, having spent all their reserves (and this is their last operational reserve), and conduct tactical actions to retain territories;
- they can leave the territory of Ukraine;
- they can move on to peace talks again.

"We will see, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reminded them that if they finish off Mariupol, there may not be peace talks," Arestovych said.

Last one I promise! Ha In the part of the quote you left out, I said my whole reason for “opening all this up” was just to point out your double standard with Russia. The whole “seizing” is a bit tongue-in-cheek for both sides. Right now, the yachts and such are technically frozen - not seized as gets reported (perhaps there has been a case of true seizure but I haven’t seen and don’t continually check). Essentially Russia is doing the same thing to foreign investors but not letting them sell their assets.
If it is wrong for Western nations to freeze Russian citizens’ assets such as yachts, villas, vehicles, et al (and I believe it is wrong), it is also wrong for Russia to freeze foreign investors’ assets. You said it is not a big deal, which I just wanted to draw your attention to. Either side can justify based on value of impacted assets, length of time, number of people impacted, etc., but it’s still wrong to restrict access to something someone owns because you disagree with them.

Anyway, have a nice weekend Ras. Big baseball series against Auburn and hopefully enjoyable weather for everyone!

The West initiated this and Russia responded.

Poland Has Sent More Than 200 Tanks to Ukraine

Poland has sent at least 240 Soviet-style tanks to Ukraine, Polish officials said, enough for two tank brigades, as Western allies raced to help the country rebuff an escalating fight for its east.

The T-72 tanks were donated alongside self-propelled howitzers, Grad rocket launchers and other Soviet-designed weaponry from the stocks of Poland, which has become Ukraine’s key benefactor within the European Union. Collectively, the large donation of heavy equipment, described by four Polish officials briefed on the issue, shows the accelerating pace at which NATO allies, including the U.S., are helping arm Ukraine.

The tanks were sent overland in recent weeks, as Russia refocused its invasion away from Kyiv, the capital, toward the east. Poland has also given Ukraine locally manufactured surveillance drones and dozens of infantry fighting vehicles, as well as sending oil overland to keep the country’s military vehicles running.

“Ukraine got from Poland more than it asked for,” one senior official said.
