The Official Tennessee Titans thread IV

What’s the reason to keep him?

Among the fact that the team would pretty much be stripping everything down and tanking at everything but QB? RB generally doesn't draw as much value in trades because of the way most teams scheme offensively now. Cutting him creates $6 mil more in dead cap. Also the whole cutting superstars/national faces of franchises while they're still performing near the top of the league tend to result in drops in revenues via fan expenditures (ticket sales, jerseys and merchandise, etc).

A temporary drop in the revenue for a chance to turn the franchise around? Worth it. I really don’t see the down side

You only read one part of that huh?

RB generally doesn't draw as much value in trades because of the way most teams scheme offensively now. Cutting him creates $6 mil more in dead cap space.

Also if a team tanks but still don't get the first overall pick because they win 1 too many games, it's very easy to end up pretty much in the no man's zone teams like the New York Jets have been regularly occupying.
