They're not but I don't think we'll have to worry about that just yet. I don't see Romania sitting on the sidelines if things got serious there. The easiest solution on paper to protect Moldova would be for Romania and Moldova to unify and thus immediately become part of the European Union and NATO by extension.

That's still very complicated. It would require Moldova just renouncing its sovereignty with little warning.

It is and would cost billions in reunification costs because Moldova is the poorest country in Europe but when faced with a potential conflict with Russia it may be the only solution at present.
