He finished the season with 133 carries, 699 yards, four touchdowns, 5.3 yards per carry, eight catches and 73 receiving yards.

As a member of the Class of 2021, Irving was a four-star prospect according to the 247Sports Composite. He was the No. 5 overall prospect in Illinois, the No. 23 running back prospect in the class and the No. 348 overall prospect in the class.
“Compact back who does have some natural bulk to him but still needs to add more weight for the next level,” his 247Sports HS scouting report read. “A very good athlete who has excellent short-area elusiveness. Does a nice job of breaking tackles and staying on his feet through contact. Runs through arm tackles, has a nice stiff-arm and also runs with determination. Finds his way through traffic. Good burst and despite no record of verified times, can break long runs although he may not have elite top-end speed. Solid as a pass catcher but can still improve in that department. Can play in any scheme and has a skill set that projects well to college. Likely to be a lead back at the Power 5 level and has the tools to end up having his name called in the middle part of the NFL Draft.”

Mar'Keise Irving, Hillcrest, Running Back (247sports.com)

Recruiting profile just to point out that he was a well-regarded prospect. Then went on to finish second on the team in yards per attempt, have the highest rushing grade in the room per PFF, and force the most missed tackles (36) and most missed tackles per rushing attempt.

He's damn good

Mar'Keise "Bucky" Irving 2021 Highlights - YouTube
All while being forced into action after their star went down with injury. He was patient and was ready to breakout when the opportunity presented itself. You don't see that as much now with everyone wanting everything handed to them on a silver platter

Watching the highlights he honestly reminds me of Kamara with his “ on skates” style. Not saying he’s as good but has that same look to me.

This would be a great addition. Never enough backs. Also would be here for at least 2 years.

Interesting. Wonder if they are expecting a different player to enter the transfer portal (possibly one there was rumors about earlier this spring).

I take that to mean, depending on how the visit goes they could lock down Irving and that’s that at RB

JMO.......But RBs are a dime a dozen, especially in this offense. If a back transfers to UT, I want a bruiser.

At his size, when an SEC fast LB or d-end, or big d-back gets an angle or head-on line on him,,, well it might not be pretty. I think we could expect to see these defensive folks I speak of are out there just loving guys like this.

MN roster does list him at 190. Still small but bigger than the recruiting profile makes him appear.

It's amazing the number of people who don't realize that high school juniors continue to grow after 247 lists their height and weight

Hahaha!!! This thought has crossed mind as well. And none of that changes after they get on campus and go through a college strength training program either…
