I'll play devil's advocate here...

Most preseason polls are nothing more than lazily regurgitating the previous season's final poll, then nudging a few teams up and down based on something they heard.

Yet ~50% of teams in the preseason top 25 will not end up there by season's end.

I actually respect someone willing to make bolder predictions and not simply regurgitating and spitting something out. The kind that may have predicted Michigan or Cincy last season...they'd be laughed at, but end up right. The traditional pollsters would never have had them that high, because they didn't finish the previous season that high.

FWIW - some of you need to do a bit more research on Wagon Wheel. Saw a documentary on it. Dylan wrote and recorded the chorus lyrics and melody. He named it Rock Me Mama.

Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show wrote the verses 25 years later. One of his band mates had found a crappy bootleg copy of Dylan's recording. Sketch had Dylan check it out and co-author before they released it with Old Crow in 2004. It was later covered by others including Rucker.

The funny part is Johnson City is east of the Cumberland Gap, not west.

Darius Rucker is always a tough one for me. On one hand, he’s a Gamecock, hates the Vols, and makes ****** music… but on the other hand, he’s a fellow Miami Dolphins fan.

“I’m such a baby cause the Dolphins make me cry” 😂 damnit if that didn’t ring true all these years

For real though, I met him one time and threw out a “Go Vols and Dolphins” and he was a good sport about it. Laughed, said something about spurs yada yada and gave me a fist bump.

Now, for the comment he made that’s getting circulation today though… drag him.

To be fair to Dylan or Secor,

The narrator IS leaving Philly and heading west.

If you include a comma, it makes sense. If you met a guy in Philly and he said he was heading west, that makes sense. Cumberland Gap and JC sounds more like a general region (west) he's headed toward. Otherwise he'd be telling the narrator he's heading west from the Cumberland Gap, which he's currently nowhere near, and so would make zero sense.

"I caught a trucker out of Philly, had a nice long toke. But he's a-headin' west, from the Cumberland Gap to Johnson City, Tennessee"

Meh I think he's just a fan at the end of the day. Not going to take him too seriously regardless. But he does post a lot of UT-favorable stuff, which is cool to see.

He's also (currently) posting a bunch of anti-jawja stuff 🤭

Hootie and the Blowfish were pretty good when they came out (sort of a more vanilla Dave Matthews Band). They just got played to absolute death and didn't have a lot of range in their repertoire. (A lot of it just sounded the same). IDK, how he is as a country artist but given his vocals I'd imagine he's at least ok.

I give him props for being proud of his school. People don't realize it because they had a good recent run under Spurrier but the Gamecocks are one of the worst programs in D1 historically. Far worse than Vanderbilt which at least has the days before Edison gave us the light bulb. And FTR, I had no idea that was the lyric. lmao!

Good to know. (It's the polls that haved tended to irk, but those are clearly publicity stunts. So many fan bases to delight, puzzle, or piss off. And all of them prone to repost.)
