This one is getting crazy. Australia is strait ****ing drawing a line and saying don't cross it, but China has basically out maneuvered them. China has become very, very expansive in the south china and "indo-pacific". Australia wants to stop their moves. The Solomon Islands now have a desperate authoritarian that the people want to kick out. That authoritarian's quick deal with China potentially gives him China military protection. It's a perfect set up. Someone needs to get to Australia. This is classic Russia influence. Setting up pretexts.

With China’s terraforming into international waters and then claiming new sovereign land they need a swift kick in the ball sack.

yep, they built artificial islands out in the middle of the ocean and put military basses on them. 😳 These guys went crazy with advancement of cheap **** you can do a lot with, and they stole it almost all from US companies. They are currently having a pretty difficult time tho. Shanghai is in marshal law, and citizens with covid are basically sealed into their apts. as crypts. The economy is takeing a massive beating over the debt they collected. Investors are pulling out by the billions. China has our stolen tech, but they are still China.

Is that why Pootin is on he verge of a mental collapse? You can paint this however you want but the truth is this is a huge and costly failure for Russia. They are basically right where they were before the tanks started rolling two months ago. Of course minus hundreds of billions in military equipment and 10s of thousands of soldiers. Yes, Ukraine is suffering losses too but I don't think they will be quitting any time soon.

Both we and especially Australia have really screwed this one up. I hope we are doing better with Micronesia since granting their independence. The Solomons and Papua/Papua New Guinea among others are too close to Australia to let the Chinese settle in there. The Chinese deal doesn't even seem to make sense - ship provisioning with troop/police help in time of need. We've got to do a lot better at keeping and cultivating friends in the region, and keeping China penned up. Last thing we need is to fight for islands across the Pacific to get to the enemy ... again.

I got $700 a month as an E-1 in the USAF in 98. When I told my Grandfather (WW2 vet) about what I was making he said he made $50 a month during the war.

I agree. Unfortunately, all the US and Australia can do is sanction the hell out of China and virtue signal. They don't have anything else in their war chest outside of that.

Or, they can try something outside of the box and look for a reasonable diplomatic solution.

As an Army E-5 and with either $200 or $150 proficiency pay for my MOS, I didn't make that in 1970. Seems like as an E-1 I got a whopping $98/month less than three years earlier.
