The DeSantis containment thread -- all things DeSantis go here

DeSantis pushes redistricting map that splits up Black voters

... and Republicans wonder why they don't do better with the black vote?

It's hard for the Republican Party to make the case that they even care about the black vote, when so much time and effort is spent trying to minimize the importance of their collective presence in local elections. Black voters will take note of blatant, racially-gerrymandered, redistricting maps such as the one that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has been promoting ... and they don't like it when these maps are passed. There is ample proof of that in polling data among registered black voters across the country.

Having any big corporation think they can dictate policy over the will of the people is dangerous. Florida is the wrong state to play social experiment games with right now. Other facist corporations best stay out west. Disney's problem is the HQ being in California where many of the nuts are.
Sadly there are people in here that think it's okay for big corporations to act in this manner.

We have several posters on the politics forum of VolNation who are Republicans /Conservatives /Trump supporters, that still openly wonder why more black voters don't switch to their side, and vote for Republican Party candidates.

Polling data indicates that a significant contributing factor to their struggles among black voters is the persistent Republican Party practice of gerrymandering Congressional district maps in order to minimize the impact that the collective voice of the black community can have in choosing their Congressional representation.

None other than Republican Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina, has even acknowledged that the perception of gerrymandering is a bigger problem for his party, among black voters, than any of his fellow (white) Republican Senators are willing to admit.

Black voters are capable of understanding what gerrymandering is. They know the Republican purpose behind it, and understandably, they don't like it.

You really want to know why more blacks don't vote for Republican candidates? This is why.

He received over 18% of the black female vote in Florida when he ran against the democrat dream Gillum.

Gerrymandering has nothing to do with it. Do you really think people are sitting around thinking - "they are trying to silence us with this gerrymandering map. Lets stay democrat."

You are reading the wrong news there pal. Your leader Biden has been losing Black support fast. He's losing support among Hispanic voters as well. The democrat party is becoming the party of big corporations and woke whites. It's no longer the party of the working class. It never really was to be honest.

The Republican Party will be the party of working people in the future. And it will be one that is multi ethnic. Sorry to break it to you.

That is not what polls of registered black voters say ... and fwiw, Sen. Tim Scott disagrees with you.

... and not in those exact words, but yes ... black voters understand that the purpose of gerrymandering is to minimize their voice, and they don't like it.

Biden received a larger percentage of the black vote in 2020, than Hillary Clinton did in 2016... I brought that to your attention the other day. I will post the link again. Republicans are not making headway with black voters, in spite of what you want to believe.

What polls are you even referring to? There hasn't been a major vote since Nov 2020. Republicans will peel off more of the black vote this fall because democrat incompetence is out in the open and more visible. Some of the base will stay home.

A lot of black voters are silent in public right now because they know they voted for this clown show and inflation and higher crime is hurting the community. This doesn't include the impact of illegal immigration on schools in these communities.

Your "Black voters are capable of understanding what gerrymandering is" comment shows are dense you can be. You sound like Joe Biden.

You sound like someone who doesn't think that the practice of splitting the black vote by way of gerrymandering is racist ... but it is - and black voters understand that, and they don't like it.

"Republicans will peel off more of the black vote," ?????

^^^^ That is just the standard bull $hit, election year, wishful thinking among Republicans that never actually comes to pass. You are delusional.

You obviously having been paying attention because I still see it here in Knoxville. Then there was the person the other day walking by the lake with a mask on. The mask has become part of their identity now and is hard for some people to part ways with it.
He may have bad allergies and it happened to be a high pollen count day? WTFCs?

It sounds like Brookings possibly manipulated the data or outright falsified it. As there are other exit polls and many other articles that disprove your claims. And I believe you even know this.

Second. I suggest you take a look at recent approval numbers for the man you voted for. He's not doing well at all among minorities.

You guys accuse Republicans of gerrymandering every election cycle. Among several other things. This is nothing new and is quite frankly getting old.

LOL. OMG. Their numbers are consistent with the overall results. Your BS is not

Democrats accuse Republicans of racially-gerrymandering district maps, because that is exactly what they do.

I know it hasn't worked out well for you over the past year with this administration but there's still time.

Republicans will make gains in every demographic available this fall. Book it.

Once again I can show you exit polling data even from your beloved CNN that will disprove what you are saying.

These constant accusations of racism are no longer working well for your party. I suggest going forward your party be open and honest about who they truly are.

I noticed you didn't disagree about the Republican Party becoming more of a party for working people going forward and that the democrats are losing support among the working class.

DeSantis might be a knuckle dragging low character, but he sure does get the Bubba vote. The Bubbas love him, because he looks like a Bubba and talks like a Bubba. DeSantis is an uppity Bubba, but he is a Bubba, and he gets the Bubba vote.

The Republican Party practice of redrawing congressional district maps in order to minimize the collective voice of the black community, continues to be pervasive. However, even with a conservative majority of Justices currently seated on the Supreme Court, we are still seeing most of these blatantly racist efforts shot down.

That is some value added insight there bud.

A mid-level state appeals court ruled Democrats gerrymandered New York’s new congressional districts to their favor, setting up a pending showdown in the state’s top court that could sway the balance of power in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The state Appellate Division in Rochester issued a split decision Thursday upholding a lower court’s ruling that threw out the Democrat-drawn congressional districts, finding they violated the state constitution’s ban on drawing district lines to benefit a particular party. But the appeals court reinstated New York’s newly drawn state Senate and Assembly district lines, which the trial court judge had also tossed on procedural grounds.
In a 3-2 decision, the Appellate Division ruled the Legislature’s Democratic majorities violated a clause in the state constitution – added in 2014 – that prohibits districts that are “drawn to discourage competition or for the purpose of favoring or disfavoring incumbents or other particular candidates or political parties.”
The ruling gives the Democrat-led state Legislature until April 30 to draw a new set of congressional lines for the June 28 primary, which could be moved back to account for the delay.
But the decision is not final: Democrats have vowed to immediately appeal, and the Court of Appeals, the state’s top court, will have final say. The seven-member court has already signaled it will hear the case on an expedited schedule, perhaps as soon as next week.
“We always knew this case would end at the Court of Appeals and look forward to being heard on our appeal to uphold the congressional map,” said Mike Murphy, a spokesperson for state Senate Democrats.

Midterms are coming up. So Democrats like BB85 has to increase the accusations of Republicans being racist. Happens every election cycle.
