I quit a few decades ago. I have played. More fun to play with just 4 and refuse to recognize party bridge scoring. Then you can mock each other hilariously. People just get uptight and all prissy at actual tournaments.
I like bridge, although hardly anyone plays any more after hearing their parents come to the edge of divorce after a few bad hands. Never played duplicate though.
As always, the company you keep. We played for years at work primarily with one guy convincing us to all ignore partial contracts and it was a blast. It worked for us.I get what you're saying. totally agree that keeping score at party bridge is a waste of time. My problem is the party bridge players that just make bids that have nothing to do with what they actually have. My local duplicate club is full of players that enjoy the fun without getting prissy. The director/owner just doesn't allow the prissy ones back in the club. So we've got a good environment. I have been in tournaments where an occasional uptight person becomes a problem.
Rook is a battle game in my family. Love it.I don't know, Rook can cause some pretty heated evenings. Any time family was together, it was always me and dad against my brother and brother-in-law. Father time took player 4 so those days are past unless we punish a new member.
Monopoly has divided families as well. We had to disband that game. many years ago.
