The Official Tennessee Titans thread IV

That’s the point. In case the starting QB gets injured.

You’re reading just a bit too much into it.

Maybe.

If Tannehill goes down, who leads them - Logan Woodside, Kevin Hogan? OK, I'm sure that scares the bejeezus out of opposing DC's. Especially since the starter Tannehill isn't scaring any of them currently with his self-destruction. This O-line does not project out to be dominating, which means Tannehill is going to get hit a lot - again. Two of its remaining starters play as walking wounded nearly every game. Maybe acknowledging that Woodside and Hogan are not going to be able to do the job well enough to win is the right thing to focus on.

I'm saying that since they did not go big at QB in the FA/trade market period, they could draft the future QB at #26 subject to who is still on the board, or, trade down for picks and take a developmental guy, or, make the trade of Tannehill on draft day if somebody is dumb enough to do it (doubtful). In the first two scenarios they are drafting for the future while Tannehill is still the established starter. Sitting behind an experienced guy for a season or two is not a bad thing. If an injury occurs at least you have the future starter getting snaps.

So many holes to address mixed with a weak QB class. Unless they just really love a guy who falls to them (Pickett maybe?), I can't see it.

We could have the worst CB situation in the entire NFL next year. IDK who will play RT. We need help at OLB, our center is 34, we need a 3rd WR.

Mularkey's statement on the podcast is just a statement - not evidence. There needs to be something more concrete than that and maybe Horton has it, don't know. The Titans can deny Mularkey's statement is true or they can choose to settle the money grab that this is. Horton was a DC four times in six years and was not hired to be HC when the job opened by his existing employer on several occasions. Peter Principle applies.

Which is why the rule is dumb because it is just public posturing. Existing laws handle any race discrimination issue. The desire to win and be profitable by all owners should handle the issue. If neither one does, then the NFL is not going to survive anyway.

It's kind of my point, bud. It's all so iffy. There are so many holes, it's almost back to being what it was when they loaded up on the draft and got so much talent. I get the feeling they are going to roll the dice on one more year at the ring, so that says WR at #26 and more trades since FA's are picked over. But it appears they know without saying publicly they are not where they need to be at QB. Next year's crop is better, but they need to be open to a Pickett dropping.

They signed another injured strong WR in the back of his career to replace one that was the same. They brought that 34 year old C back for two seasons, while having no RT and having to replace a G. They sign a swing O-line and plan to let him compete for a job when he could not win the job outright where he was. CB/OLB is weak as you point out. It's wishing and hoping your development has been good and nobody gets injured. Not a good recipe for success.

Kiper has us taking Dotson but with Linderbaum still on the board. I want a WR but if everyone in the first group is gone, I think there's a drop with Dotson. I'd prefer we draft the guy who may be a hall of fame level center for the next 10-12 years.

100% - especially since they are both positions of need.

Some of the draft analysts are also seeing the Titans go O-line in the first round. They think that with Brown, Woods and Hooper there will not be a lot balls thrown to others in this O and that they can add a quality receiver later since the draft is deep at the position. I am starting to come around to that line of thinking because the best WR's are likely to be gone by the time they get to #26.

I just hope Woods actually works out. Reynolds was a major flop here after showing promise in LA. I just don’t know if success in that offense translates to meaning anything in ours.

But I do agree with the overall point. With a WR like AJ already on the roster, there is just no need going that way in round 1 unless you’re certain you’re getting a guy like the next Randy Moss or Calvin Johnson.

Actually been scratching my head over all the WR projections for that reason. OL makes more sense. Also wouldn’t mind another good DB or pass rusher. Can never have too many of those, especially with all this QB power concentrated in the AFC.

Agree completely. Especially after reading what appears to be the real world view of J-Rob/Vrabel below.

Two Weeks Before the NFL Draft, All Options in Play for the Titans

They know they have holes or J-Rob would not consider moving down for picks and it sounds like he is more than willing to do that and talk trades.

They are not changing what they do, just tweaking it. To do that well requires hogs on the line who can pass pro decently for the play action. They are weak there. They are selling that Farley is going to be ready at DB. My response is "so what?" He has not proved he can play a whole season without being seriously injured. So that says, get a DB or two. They signed another injury reconstruction in Woods and the draft is deep at receiver. So that says get a receiver or two to develop, especially if one can be a good returner. That screams Velus Jones to me, but he's on the radar of other teams since he had such a good combine. Add in always needing quality edge rushers - always.

Vol8188, you and I are pretty similar in how we see this. I just throw out there if Pickett or an elite WR are around at #26, you have to pull the trigger if you have not already moved down.

I know thats just a concept...

But that looks terrible lol

Not as bad as Mercedes Benz Stadium and SoFi Stadium IMO. Some of these current designers and architects are trying way too hard.

I also hated the look of Lucas Oil Stadium when it first opened, but I’ll admit it has grown on me, even if I despise the team that resides there.

Charlie at walterfootball has four value picks that are interesting. He thinks all three could fall to the 4th round - RB Pierce from UF, WR Velus, G Hines of LSU and DE Williams of Ole Miss. I would take the later three in a heartbeat in the 4th.

Unpopular opinion but Brown is the most important player on this offense and maybe on the team overall (Simmons being the other option). Make him happy.

Yeah, he's not the most important (or shouldn't be anyway).

Interesting strategy on his part - picks his worst season to leverage for a new deal. I assume his agent's argument will be look at your record last year without him. And the Titans' argument will be, he wasn't available so we don't want to tie up big money in a guy that cannot contribute reliably. Definitely a blow to next season if he decides to sit out.
