Your concept is valid in a free world where free trade isn't tainted by one country playing games with currency valuation and where business is not an outgrowth of the government, but China is both of those and more on the less free side of free trade. It's a game we lose playing with China because only a small part of the country can afford our goods, and China simply steals the technology to produce domestic knockoffs - the people probably don't even know who inspired the knockoffs. There seems no way to tame China without slamming the door until people decide to revolt and demand freedom, and that's not going to happen quickly. I think Orangeburst wins this one because the Chinese consumer can't afford our stuff and free trade with China is heavily manipulated by the Chinese.

That's certainly true. China always plays the long game; we change leadership and direction several times before the Chinese adjust a plan. We need some of their kind of stability and long range planning, but our culture and especially our "leaders" don't seem up to that.

The most effective way to facilitate positive changes in another country is free trade. Exporting our "lifestyle" does more to move the masses than dumping dollars or diplomacy.
