I want to vent about something. I just became aware for the first time that it costs $1184.20 out of pocket per kid to be on the cheerleading squad for public middle school at 11 years old. On top of the fundraisers. And on top of mandatory cheer camp which another near 500. WTF happened in the last 20 years that made it cost so much to stand on the sideline holding a plastic pom pom at 11 years old? I realize schools are always "underfunded" but DANG. They were underfunded 20 years ago too and we didn't have to pony up over a freaking grand just to participate in school sports. It used to be that a simple car wash or something bought the uniforms and insurance and everything else was just a bonus. How can kids who's parents barley pay their utility bills ever get a chance to participate going forward? Of course, my wife says I need to be quiet, but I don't think it's right.

SAME HERE!! My sons in 6th grade and practicing to play football next year. It’s a well funded school, but their charging an arm and a leg plus having to play for his equipment. It’s been years too since I played (all sports FB, BB, and Track) and it didn’t cost my parents anything like this (plus the fundraisers you mentioned)
