I’ve repeatedly made the claim that our defense is well coached and that a major issue we face on that side of the ball is not having enough talent and depth to compete with elite teams, elite being defined as an AP top 25 team. Against everyone else we perform as a top 20 defense. jmo.

Here is another nugget to try to make my point. The top half of the defenses in the conference and in the nation average around 15 defensive plays per quarter. They play 4 quarters of football so they’re around 60 +/- defensive plays per game. Additionally they’re rotating guys to control the number of snaps on their guys. Of course everyone is emphasizing the need to ā€œstrainā€ on every play. jmo.

Our defense with our offense is required to play on average 5 quarters of football every game. That has always been the case with Heupel’s offense. It’s pretty much the same with Kiffin’s offense at Ole Miss as well. jmo.

Time of possession is thought by some to be increasingly irrelevant and that may be so but the number of plays a player has to play is not irrelevant. Everybody wears out at some point. I don’t think there is any conditioning program in the world that is going to have you at your best in the 5th quarter in most SEC football games. jmo.

I, along with most other analysts, am expecting our defense to improve this year, owing mostly to being more familiar with the system, but also we could marginally have better depth. There won’t be a ton of upgrade in talent but experience will help a lot. jmo.

One thing that I doubt will change all that much is the requirement for Tim Bank’s guys to play 5 quarters of football every game. It’s just a feature of our current approach to the game. jmo.

Our philosophy for winning is to score more points than our opponents. The more points we can score, the more we can help our defense. I don’t want to sound ungrateful or greedy, what with having one of the highest scoring offenses in the nation, but WE.NEED.TO.SCORE.MORE.POINTS. jmo.

Our defense played like crap in the second quarter all season long. If they had just got off the field one more freaking time in several games we would have won 9 at least.

What does that mean money wise? If you bet $20, how much do you win?

Scottie to win -300
Both teams to score in the Liverpool vs City game -170

Those two picks together in a 2 leg parlay was +106 total odds. So my $20.75 I bet would be a net gain of $22.19 for a total of $42.94 with the money I originally put in.

I just had $20.75 sitting in my account from a free bet and wanted to use it. Scottie is essentially a sure thing unless he epically fails, so I threw that in with the other bet to do a 2 leg parlay to try and get to a double up situation.

I am not sure what -300 means..is that 1 to 3? You have to bet $3 to make $1?

I agree and I showed that in an earlier post. They did well in the first quarter and were horrible in the second quarter. They did better in the 3rd quarter after a brief rest at the half, but not near as good as in the first quarter, then they were horrible again in the 4th quarter. I'm simply saying we don't have guys to rotate to keep a fresh and capable defense on the field. jmo.

I understand I think what you and some others may be saying, just make the plays and get off the field. I don't think it's that simple. I mean it is for fans. It is what it is. jmo.

I think it is that simple..stop giving up third-fourth and longs and get more rest.

I agree, but he may want to prove to himself he can make it all the way through. Personally, I think making the cut, given what happened to him, is a big deal.
If this last three holes is because he is in so much pain..then he needs to shut it down...tommorow will be absolutely awful.
