This villain persona-- chicken or egg? The media has been portraying UT as a rogue program for years. Rival programs make everything a controversy. The "illegal bat" is a prime example. Something that would have been a minor incident soon forgotten for another program will get as much commentary as possible when UT is involved.
It's laughable. If there were the slightest possibility of malfeasance, that bat would have been intensely scrutinized by everyone up the chain before the series ended. Hell, they would have confiscated all UT bats if they had any reason to suspect anything at all. Tony V and the BaseVols have the swagger to ride the wave. Sell those shirts!
My favorite moment was my wife getting on the officials…. We were playing a team from Alabama…. The refs were a traveling group that was located near that team…. They called 9 charges against our team…. The last one my daughter was in the air…. A girl slid over very late, wasn’t squared up and still called a charge… my wife yelled…. “Are you stupid” ….the gym had went quiet right as she was yelling at him…. It was an old gym and the way it was built caused it to echo and all you heard was stupid…. Stupid….. stupid….. stupid…. The ref turned towards us and I told him that I got her. LOLWhy anyone would ever think this is OK is beyond my comprehension.
I cannot stand the crafting of words the media uses to express their opinion in a seemingly innocent way. Vitello "ingeniously distracted from one of his players being caught using an illegal bat." (paraphrase)The Tennesseean...always a week late, but with plenty of shade to throw.
Yes, sweeping #1 on the road wasn't enough. We just had to go through the newspaper's hometown #9 ranked team to prove ourselves![]()
