It would be a little more coherent if they had just limited the premise to the fact that they gave Olson a pile of cash and then went to Arbitration with 5 guys including Max Fried. The Freeman angle is goofy.

What is the rationale...the starting rotation? It's really good on paper but there are injury risks everywhere, most notably with deGrom, and I'd be worried about Max breaking down if I were them.

Yes, plus a bunch of high leverage late season + playoff innings from last year on those arms. It is absolutely insane how good they were down the stretch, particularly how suspect they were during most of the season.
