The DeSantis containment thread -- all things DeSantis go here

I wasn’t advocating talking about any sexual relationship. You realize kids ask questions when they see things. Making an innocuous statement does not indoctrinate kids.
In what context would a teacher ever have the right to comment to a kid whose parents are in love and what type of relationship they have? Do you not see how stupid and inappropriate that is? What business is it to comment on your perception of what kids parents love each other or what their relationship status is? And the fact you think that is normal behavior is very disturbing on its own.

Probably because of their ridiculous attempts to demonize and even criminalize it when it didn't line up with their book.
I don’t think it’s even that it doesn’t line up with their book… a lot of it is that they just can’t relate to it and it doesn’t line up with their sensibilities so they prooftext their way into justifying themselves.

Biden tears into 'political attacks' on Transgender children: Slams bills stopping them getting puberty blockers, stopping biological boys playing sport against girls and Florida's 'Don't Say Gay Bill' for 'damaging mental health'

President Biden on Wednesday tore into the 'political attacks' on transgender children coming from state legislators across the country such as Florida's so-called 'Don't Say Gay' bill.

'Visibility matters, and so many transgender, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming Americans are thriving,' Biden said in a statement marking Transgender Visibility Day. 'Despite this progress, transgender Americans continue to face discrimination, harassment, and barriers to opportunity.'

Biden said that in 2021 and 2022, states had proposed 'hundreds of ant-transgender bills. 'Efforts to criminalize supportive medical care for transgender kids, to ban transgender children from playing sports, and to outlaw discussing LGBTQI+ people in schools undermine their humanity and corrode our Nation's values.'

On Wednesday, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey signed a bill that would ban anyone under the age of 18 from getting gender reassignment surgery and limiting transgender girls from playing in girls' sports.

Arizona joins a dozen other states with limits on sports participation for trans girls and becomes the third state to try and limit health care options for transgender teens.

Since last year, bans have been introduced in at least 25 states, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. This week, lawmakers in Oklahoma also passed a ban.

They actually believe they have the moral high ground here. This simulation sucks.

I think that's fair. But I'm not sure it matters in the end

You don't legislate some a singular incident. One that wouldn't be solved anyways
I’m not sure about the legislation as I have mentioned before but it is becoming more and more common….. teachers are on social media talking about similar things all the time….. Parental rights in schools are slowly being taken away…. We all need to stand up to that.

It's not common it's just more visible, accessible and amplified in today's world.

If you want more control don't send your kids to govt schools. That's the trade

That’s your opinion…. I think it’s becoming more common as the world continually evolves…..Your option of fixing the problem sounds like the Democrats solution to gas prices….. just buy a Tesla…. I have four kids and last I checked that would cost me 32,000 plus per year….. I have a good job but can’t afford that per year…. It’s not too much to expect the government to respect parental rights, imo.

Not necessary if you accept the fact that Government works for us.

That's a choice you make. You give up something to keep money in your pocket. If you want more control you put them somewhere the schools aren't run by govt bureaucrats

I know lots of parents and see no evidence this is widespread in Florida. It's extra legislation that fixes nothing yet buys votes

That does seem like the reasonable choice but if this really scales up wouldn't that just lead to ever increasing "us vs them"?

If we move the idea forward that on one side we have public schools that are full on big government and on the other side everyone else with the means and desire to have their kids not only taught differently but actually separate wouldn't that just put this whole polarization thing on steroids?

Lol just send your kids to private school is such an elitest mentality.

I got a handful of friends in elementary education here in north fl and all of them like the bill.

So? All education is not equal anyways and already happens based on school system and available funds. Inner city in NYC getting the same education as Wall Street kids?

Liking it and it being effective legislation are 2 separate ideas

Getting your child the best education possible is not an elitist idea and more than other purchase choices.

Except they don't and haven't for a long time. Your post is a fantasy
It is only because the people have let them get away with it. The re-election rate for congressional incumbents is insane. We complain incessantly about “government” but then like clockwork return the same knaves to power every 2/6 years

Absolutely agree and they continue to do it. No one wants to stop voting for their tribe long enough to change. This forum is full of those people
