The Supreme Court of the United States Thread

Never understood why Booker didn't get more traction in the primaries. God, he's soooooo much better and more likeable than Kamala Harris.

It probably has something to do with the fact that Booker is a douche that, to the surprise of nobody, loves nothing more than the sound of his own voice. He didn't ask a single question in that clip.

I'm trying to google and find someone asking him "do you like beer" and Kavanagh is the one that said "do you like beer?"

I think it was in reference to a tab from a baseball game or something. Apparently, he bought drinks for his staff or something and the veiled accusation was he was an alcoholic.

Graham is playing to the Fox News audience with histrionics. Whatever valid points Graham could be making, are obscured by his lack of calm and self-assuredness. He is out of control and uncivil. Perhaps you could pardon him for simply being passionate, but you can't because it's such an obvious act. Graham just looks ridiculous.
They fumbled away a Golden opportunity here to break the cycle and score much more than are going to now.

Predictably.

There was so much talk of alcohol. He mentioned beer several times in his opening statement.

It was a yearbook quote (which I agree is silly) about the "Ralph club" which somebody asked if that was regarding alcohol, and that's when Kavanagh did the defensive, "i like beer, do you like beer?" thing.

If anyone wants to complain about the level of questioning of any SCOTUS candidate going forward, they'll only need to look at these hearings to see how the stage was set.

Any time a high school or college yearbook is brought up, you know the level of petty went past Ludicrous Speed to Plaid.

All those people on that committee are an embarrassment- Republican and Democrat. In particular, has anybody ever paid attention to a thing that Marsha (Barbie) Blackburn says? Talk about an empty suit moron. How she gets elected makes me seriously worry about the intelligence of the citizens of Tennessee.

What is a person born with XY chromosomes, female genitalia and undescended testes?

Edit: I don't know. But I would ask a biologist before I would a judge.

A birth defect defines gender? Apparently a mental defect does but biologically the definition is pretty simple.

Bottom line is that the Democrats have no right to complain about questions not related directly to a judge‘s record or qualifications. The Kavenaugh hearings were maybe the most asinine, shameful, and ridiculous moments in the Senate in my lifetime.
WHATEVER questions Judge Jackson gets will be tame by comparison

Appreciate the detailed response.

So how would all of this relate to the border issue and individual states having different statutes that all roll up and impact us at the federal level?
I don’t know a lot about that.

Federal and state law are kind of a Vinn diagram where the federal circle takes up almost the entire page.

There are some areas where the two overlap and operate independently (criminal law), some areas where the state supplements federal regimes (Medicaid, maybe?), a few where the federal government has no authority, and some where the federal law is preemptive.

My assumption is that immigration falls into that last category.

I still think it's funny that Alyssa Milano had such a good seat. LOL.

Exceptional collegiate performance, such as becoming a Rhodes Scholar, can be fairly attributed to some combination of hard work, ambition and intelligence.

I can somewhat agree. However that doesn’t necessarily equate to intelligence. Steve Jobs was a college dropout. You could argue he was very intelligent. Davinci never went to college. There is no single measure of intelligence. Just like every other politician, Booker has said many insanely dumb things in his career.
