# shades of Gray

Heard news that Eric Gray isn’t happy at OK and looks to graduate this summer.
Could he possibly grad-transfer back to UT.
He has been at the D-1 camp training with former Vols and current RBs at UT.
Where’s there smoke there is fire.
Wait and see what happens 🤷🏼‍♂️
Don't care...He left he should stay gone...Let him go somewhere else if he isn't happy at Oklahoma...He turned in his VFL card when he left here.

I thought the issue was that he “quit” and “abandoned his team”. Didn’t Jordan do that? Was it bad for the Bulls’ locker room to bring him back?

I’ve never proclaimed “he’s the greatest RB of all time”.

Did Jordan quit? Yes. Was it bad for the Bulls locker room? No. Why? Because the Bulls knew they would be winning championships again. And if Gray had even a fingertip of Jordan’s talent I would welcome Gray back in a heartbeat. He doesn’t. He isn’t that good and would not be our starter. You think if Gray comes back we are winning championships? Not even close. He left us and isn’t that good. Hard pass.

He needs to just dig in and work harder at Oklahoma. He wasn’t the best back on the team last year and if he doesn’t work hard in the off season he won’t be any better next year. But yea, just go pro - it’s not near as competitive as college…😂😂😂😂

He might want to see which Canadian team he wants to try out for.

Am I the only thing that just doesn’t think Eric Gray is very good? He doesn’t run through contact, can’t push a pile forward and his overall speed isn’t that impressive for a guy that small.

His strength is his shiftiness and making people miss in the open field but when it comes to running the ball between the tackles, you could go to any power 5 school and find a better back than Gray.

There is a reason he ended up 2nd string at Oklahoma.

We don’t run between the tackles a whole lot tho. He’s a good fit in our offense IMO

That’s not true. I think people mistake our wide open offense for not needing a big strong back. Truth is we run inside the tackles a lot and a back that can turn a one yard gain into a three yard gain is huge for this offense as keeping the chains moving allows us to play at the tempo. Can’t play tempo if you get three and outs.

I think Gray would be good from a depth standpoint, If I were him, I would find a less crowded RB room as I don’t see him as a starter here. Maybe he can earn it, but certainly not a given. A team like UNC, UCF or Memphis would be a good landing spot for him if he wants an easier path to be a starter.

If you're going to use basketball players as an analogy you should have used LeBron(I'm taking my talents to South Beach). He left his team to go play with Miami, leaving Cleveland in a bad spot. When he came back, he had people trade as part of the deal to come back so anyone that probably didn't care for him was gone.

As for Gray. If he left because he was part of the group that was paid and asked to leave. No you can't bring him back .
If he left because of TN being in disarray. I probably still wouldn't bring him back. Can't fault a person for abandoning what they thought was a sinking ship but later find out that things were so bad wanting to come back. Also couldn't blame a guy if he wasn't getting PT and decided to go someplace else and try but then decides he wants to come back but Gray was a featured back, main guy.

CJH has the guys believing in themselves and playing for each other. Not sure you want to disrupt that bringing back a guy who went looking for greener pastures now wanting to come back home when things are looking promising.

No one on this board knows the real story of what happened and why. The young men in the locker room and CJH do know the story. If Gray wanted to come back (highly unlikely IMO), and the staff and team allowed it, I would trust THEIR decision. We are just outside observers commenting on something about which we know basically nothing.

in hindsight, the biggest mistake of gray's career thus far is transferring out of ut for ok. his stats as the feature back under heupel would have been ridiculous and his projected draft status would have been greatly enhanced. but who knew, right? not sour grapes, just my honest opinion.

We assume Gray had a choice in the matter at that time. He may not have had.

I would like to know the true story of his transfer portal exit before I say yes or no. This is a situation where Coach Heupel would make the right decision for his guys.

Heupel's offense spreads the secondary out so much that the O flourishes with a back that can get through the first line because there likely won't be a second line. It's often more like turning a one yard gain into six points gained.
