I was nervous because they have 8 top 100 RSCI players on that team. Nervous that they had 4 guys averaging 10 ppg or better, nervous that 2 of their top 5 scorers were 6'11" or taller not to mention that only 2 of their top 7 mpg guys are under 6'7". Now with all that being said, if we just shoot on average from 3 hitting 6 out of 18 that's an additional 12 points and we win that game comfortably. (considering they hit 6 FTs in the final 37 seconds as we tried to extend it)
Exactly...it is that simple.

And he is still a very good coach that will continue to put good teams on the floor every year.

That tourney is just a tough nut to crack. There are a handful of coaches that have a real knack for how to navigate it, but they are rare.

I remember doing some research a couple of years ago to compare Bruce at Auburn and Barnes at UT. If you take away Bruce’s FF run (I know, that’s a big accomplishment), his record in March at Auburn is awful. I broke it down by month and year, and Barnes had a slightly better winning percentage. Because of Barnes’ success in the SECT at UT, his March record is actually pretty good.

No it doesn't, but there was no powerhouse team this year. The top four all had big flaws. We had the ability to win it all if we could just continue shooting from outside consistently well and not having so many cold streaks. The team had done a remarkable job of improving that over the season. They just hit a slump against a good team that played well enough to take advantage.

It was also a bad matchup for us physically, but bad matchup or not, we would have won yesterday with just a mediocre 3 pt shooting game.

It’s all about matchups in the tournament.

I just posted this in a bball thread. The SEC had out of conference wins against the top 5 in KenPom- Arizona, Gonzaga, Baylor, Houston, and Kansas.

It also had at least 17 out of conference wins against tournament teams- UNC (twice), Memphis (twice), Ohio State, Miami, Notre Dame, Richmond, Murray State, UAB, South Dakota State, Jacksonville State in addition to Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Wake Forest, etc.

The SEC was a very good conference.

Truth but in my feels it’s mediocre when the top teams get bounced early

I agree, it is very frustrating, but I have conditioned myself by understand that winning in the NCAA tournament is nothing but a pure crapshoot.

I love Rick Barnes, and I love this team because of their heart and sincere effort to better themselves. This was a talented, yet really flawed team this year. I did not lose sight of that fact despite the tear they went on.

I am disappointed, I would love to win a title, but I understand that you have to put together a consistently 20-25 game winning program and keep putting yourself in that position to even have a chance...and Barnes has done that despite starting his tenure here by taking over a nuked program.

No other coach outside of Pearl in my lifetime has done that, and Pearl was ultimately an embarrassment...Rick Barnes is not and never will be an embarrassment.

He will always put teams like this out there, hard-working teams that are easy to pull for. Ultimately that means more to me than a one-time lucky win at the Roulette wheel.
And to add to that, expectations from most about this team were not very high. Seven freshmen had a lot to do with that.
