Just to be clear, I’m not advocating for firing Barnes. He’s elevated our program and gives us three good months of entertainment every year, beating our rivals and making us relevant in the national conversation. His record against UK is the best a Tennessee coach has ever had and he did something I never thought I’d see which is win the SEC tournament. He’s a good man, has built a strong moral culture on the team, and represents the university well. As far as I’m concerned he’s our coach until he retires.

I just don’t have any expectations when it comes to the NCAA Tournament with him. I can’t even say tonight’s loss was his fault, 2-18 from 3 with open looks tells that story. I don’t know what to call it, maybe it’s just bad luck, but we’ve got a large enough sample size by now to know what to expect. Kind of like when we play Florida every year in football, I just don’t expect us to win that game because we simply don’t. That’s just the way it is.

Enjoy what Rick does bring us, beating Kentucky never gets old, and that SEC tournament title is a real accomplishment. We’ve certainly suffered through a lot worse as Tennessee Basketball fans. Maybe the next guy will be the one to take us to the next level in the NCAA’s.

going into this game...

- 3 seeds favored by more than 3.5 were 21-10.
- 3 seeds with a KenPom of 10 or better were 12-4.
- 3 seeds from a tier 1 conference vs 11 seeds from a tier 1 conference were 24-12

Went back and looked, here are the trends for when we played OkSt...

- When 5 seed is favored by 7.5 or more, they are 11-1.
- 5 seed with kenpom ranking 50+ better than 12 seed (Tenn 21, OreSt 85) are 13-2
- 12 seed with kenpom 80 or worse are 2-8

For two years we have bucked the trends in a very negative way
Check the trend of SEC teams against Big Ten teams in the 2nd round. It’s not good. Had a stats guy at the sportsbook tell me what it was and it worried me. We missed good shots, didn’t turn the ball over and lost. This is about as good of control what you can control performance that we could have had. Shots didn’t drop

Shots didn't drop because Michigan's plan was to not let us have any shots from outside. They gave up the paint and played the perimeter tight. We never got in rhythm because of that, seldom had good shots outside, and when they were finally there we were not warm at all from outside so we missed wide open 3's. They had a plan and it worked for them.

It’s so convenient to blame the players and the refs for this loss. Some even say the games are predetermined because if the “refs.” Yet when we win big games, it’s great win by Barnes and the guys played great. No mention of the refs.

Ask me about the SECT refs.

You just choose to ignore it. There were definitely mentions of the officiating when we beat UK in the SEC semis. But that doesn’t fit your narrative. The college officiating has sucked for several years now…win, lose, or draw. You can write that in stone. But the conference doesn’t care to fix it.

You know damn well the committee put us in this bracket with this seeding for a reason.

Michigan is a bad matchup for us and I guarantee that was considered when seeding was done.

Still we hit 4 more 3s and win.
They put us in a bracket against Michigan bc they didn’t think we could handle them…. That seems like a huge stretch…. We should have whipped this team.

Because its not a conference issue, but an NCAA issue.

I didn’t see anything wrong with the way the game was officiated today.
