Yet another reason that giving Freddie a 6th year shouldn’t be an issue: he can DH towards the end of the deal if his defense starts to slide.

They’ll get fleeced in the back of the deal no matter what. Just a matter of how bad they want his next 2-3 years.

In the back end of the deal, do you think they'll get fleeced (a la Pujols), or just be overpaying him? Freddie can DH and has a swing that should age pretty well.

That’s the thing. You just don’t know. I hope they sign him, but it’s a no brainer to go get Matt Olson instead if there’s a palatable deal on the table. You can do a lot of other things for 25-30M/yr.

There’s way too much emotion for most people but not so much for AA.

If AA thinks he is going to be something less than completely ripped off, then he should just re-sign him. Perhaps it is wishful thinking, but I don't see him falling off the face of the Earth the final couple years of the deal. Less productive, yes, but I don't think he'll be hitting .250 with 15 HRs and missing 50 games.

I doubt they get fleeced. In 3-4 years $30M will be common and someone will trade for him to DH at their place. Sign the man.
