What is the status of the flopping or faking

So no rule change on flopping, or faking, but did anyone else see the rule change about clock and incomplete passes?

New rule states the incomplete pass will now be treated same as a guy going out of bounds. The clock will no longer stop for an indeterminate amount of time, but rather it will stop and be start again as soon as the ball is placed for the next down.

To me, I think this gives Tennessee a huge advantage as it adds even more speed to the game...downside is now even more teams will have flops on plays that are incomplete passes.

Gonna be some hellaciously long games this fall. Might need to take the play through feature golf uses to keep things moving during the incessant commercial breaks. If we could only get rid of reviews, we might keep games a reasonable length.

We did it to Ole Miss as much as they did it to us last year, the week after the game somebody on here broke it down and cited the play and time in the game for folks to see for themselves. People didn't want to hear it and raged at the poster but nobody else showed their work. I eventually watched it myself after cooling down some and the reason nobody who hated on the poster showed their work was because he was right. Heupel needs to adjust to the fact that hyper speed isn't going to be allowed and/or is easily thwarted by this. He's a smart guy, he can do it. It'll probably help our defense and defensive recruiting in the long run.

They passed the buck, they keep trying to act like fans want to shorten the game and want to change the rules just to change them. They want to shorten the game because of tv and money. Instead of changing the things that really slow the game down like 5-8 minute replays and a gazillion tv timeouts. Most fans have zero problem with the length of a game and between refs and commercials they are the biggest reason for it anyway. And I guess they are going to keep tossing players out for head to head hits even if it is obvious it wasn’t intentional. Shame on the rules committee. They are as out of touch with the fans as the Biden administration and probably care about as much. If anybody can ruin the game it’s a rules committee that wants to micro manage and give refs too much subjective ways to interpret rules. All that shortening the game is about is tv and money, it doesn’t have a dadgum things to do with the fans. The rules committee is a freakin joke. GBO!

They are the biggest reason the game is long, the endless stares at the camera on replay. Why not put a time limit on replay? Why not a freakin commercial limit?? And the obvious flop??? But do they address any of that??? Hell no! They want to change the game to fit around the problems. Fans need to voice their displeasure to the rules committee itself. They aren’t addressing the real problems, only screwing with the games to accommodate their own problems. They are a FARCE!

Again, I know who the King of the Flop is and I don’t need to review film to understand it. And the entire football world knows who it is as well. Like I said, the dude in the post I linked, Blinghampton Vol showed his work, he provided facts, against which people offered conclusory statements/feelings, but no argument based on the record, because his analysis was accurate.


I don't think OM game is so much the poster child for faking injuries as some of you, particularly the fan tantrum at that game, made us the poster children for whining about them.

In some respects I like it because it will help speed up the game. Here's where I have an issue. It's late in the game/ half and the team on D is behind. They get that crucial stop on 3rd (incomplete pass). Now they will have to burn a TO (if they have any). Or does the clock stop anyway late in the halfs? I can't remember.

According to the new rule, as soon as the ball is placed for the 4th down the clock starts so the decision has to be quicker on both sides of the ball.
If it's a short / advantageous situation the offense must decide quicker if they want to go for it or not.
Defense has to decide, as you pointed out, whether to let the clock run or call the TO to save time for them on their possession.

Just another facet of the in-game chess match between coaches...I like it.

It certainly changes the end of half/game & 4th down strategy as you mentioned.

I just don’t know how some people can come come on here argue that Lane Kiffin is not the king of flop. But I also don’t understand how some people will go to their graves wishing that we would hire him back. I know he has a tiger beat style fan base on here, so hopefully that’s all it is. A bunch of 40 something 15 year olds who don’t want this rule changed for their love interest. But the grown ups need to take over at some point.

Now that coaches see there's no cost to following Kiffin's lead....you will start seeing players on offense "flopping" when the coach wants to hold a team meeting on the sidelines during a critical drive....COUNT ON IT.
I'd say the 5 hour game is coming.....

I remember a couple of our games last season approached 5 hours long. That it entirely too long and unacceptable.

I really don't see what the big fuss is about with the SEC.I personally think it's a simple fix and I've seen them do a litany of dumb stuff.You can't have what u see n the above clip least make it look semi-believable.Anyone with eyes and watches that can see what he's doing and how it kills the game in general much less the other offense.Gotta be some dumb politics or something behind it.
