War in Ukraine

For those that are mocking the sanctions, what do you propose we do?

  1. Sanction
  2. Concede Ukraine
  3. Go to war
  4. Insert alternative here
I'm not mocking sanctions I believe they do cause pain. Not enough to stop Russia from taking Ukraine obviously. I would be working to get Finland and Sweden to join NATO. Expansion of NATO is the one thing Putin fears most.

They’d be accepted, but I’m not sure either would actually want to join.

How much oil are we still importing from Russia? I noticed our first tranche of sanctions hasn’t included not buying their oil. We’re not very serious about this.

Quick Google...
Across 2021 the US imported between 12 million as 26 million barrels of crude oil and petroleum from Russia every month.

I get it, oil is a commodity and displacement is filled, but dang...Just think we were energy independent 2 years ago. If one is energy independent, it is no longer a world influenced commodity. Idiots

Several posters have been referring to Ukraine as our ally. I'd appreciate it if one of them would post the instrument, ratified by both the United States and Ukraine, that binds our two nations together and defines the obligations each has to the other.

Exactly. We’re our own worst enemy at times.

You won't find that, but probably you already new that. Certainly you understand why we'd be in aligned together against Russia who has looked to topple a regime that overthrew one put into place by Moscow. A common foe makes them political allies, which is why they were petitioning to join NATO.

The CCP and Russia have a common foe. You for sanctioning China as well?

Thanks, good answers - do you think that Donetsk and Luhansk would be the last stop? Crimea was just step 1.

I disagree about the sanctions, they will hurt. Don't conflate the pain of the sanctions with a black and white outcome.
I don't think he stops at Donetsk and Luhansk.

Sadly, I think we may very well be seeing the groundwork for WWIII. Putin's land grab attempts are reminiscent of what Hitler did leading into WWII. JMO.

I would say we’re friendly, but yes, you have a point. Regardless of official status, I don’t have a problem with supporting them, just not with our troops.

Russia of today does not have the financial power to go some mass expansionist policy...unless they have the blessings of a much more prosperous nation..HMMMM

We've been giving them military aid. Wouldn't that make them our ally?

It’s worth watching. NATO and the rest of Western Europe better be getting their s**t in a pile and their plans together if it looks like he plans to go beyond that.

You really aren't grasping what's going on are you?

Just taking a macro geopolitical view of your beliefs. The CCP has threatened to take Taiwan and yet you whined about tariffs, which had no inflationary impact even on the consumer.

I think that depends on Ukraine. It’ll be hard for Ukraine to cede land that was once theirs, but I don’t think many Ukrainians will be eager to face Russia militarily...and I don’t think NATO countries think it’s worth fighting over, jmo.

And Germany shouldn't have been able to do what they did after being defeated in WWI... but they did.

As said by the downed F-15 Colonel pilot when asked about Europe ..."They decided to sit this out"
